My daughter and I have been homeschooling for 9 years. We are finishing up senior year and got stumped on math. So I went online to find math software..this is what I learned:
math software + my credit card= expensive.
I bought the "Best out there" algebra software and quickly found out it sucked. It was very hard to use and understand. AND it couldn't figure out half the stuff we were doing. AND for the 100 bucks I spent on it, it didn't even do dishes! To make matters worse it left the toilet seat up!
So I started looking for free math help online. 'Cause let's face it..free is better than 100 bucks. I was very happy to find algebrahelp.com. It is loaded with free calcuators that show you step by step what to do and it has even more pages of worksheets and help. It is not perfect..it can't solve algebra equations in the form of fractions, but the site says they are working on a new calculator that is more advanced. Of all the calculators online this is the best that I have found. Algebrahelp.com
This next site will make math geeks wet themselves. http://www.martindalecenter.com/Calculators2.html
There are links to everything you can imagine that is related to math. I even found a link that led me to Germany which in turn led me to a site that calculates equations in different languages like French, Greek, and idiot. Really good for math-dunces like me!
Please tell us about any math sites you know of! I am sure I am not the only one who could use the help!

David, Love your icon..we went and saw the Body Worlds exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago...it was amazing! Have you been?
7th grade taking Algebra. thanks
In kindergarten my daughter's teacher ripped up a picture she drew in front of her saying "this is garbage"
In 1st grade her teacher grabbed her arm and slammed it on the desk. Why? She wasn't holding her pencil properly. When I saw the burise and found out what happened I went to the prinicpal. the teacher came in her office and completely admitted to doing it. The janitor had to keep me off the bitch.
2nd grade -switch to different school.
3rd grade 4 notes to teacher are ignored after my child is stabbed several times with a pencil by another child.
meeting with principal and teacher leads to teacher crying and wailing that she is "misunderstood and over worked" Then it comes out that the child who was stabing my child, was the teacher's boyfriend's daughter.
4th grade- my daughter can't answer a math question. the 75 year old teacher tells another child to stand next to her and tell her she is "stupid."
Principal basically does nothing.
half way through 4th grade I pull beth out and we begin home schooling.
gerald...it was a shame my kid had to endure it...and let me tell you homeschooling was no picnic... people can say glowing things about it all they want, but they and I know it is hard work and getting your kid to do what you want is even harder when it is YOUR kid. But Beth has tons of common sense and street smarts which she got from me.... so it all balanced out.
He's incredibly bright and nearly failing second grade. They are obsessed with five-minute tests for these kids, and as soon as he hears it's timed he puts down his pencil and refuses to try. The stress of it blanks him out and he can't refocus and calm down about it.
Mandi - when I was a child we had teachers who would pick kids up by the hair and slam them into towel dispensers. Nothing you say about education could surprise me.
Lisa, interesting that you see school as being girl oriented... when actually girls do much worse in scince and math when they go to school with BOYS! LOL!
Try a different school before you decide to homeschool. Is he in religious school or public? They are VERY different in their ways of teaching. And never be afraid to speak up and go to the principal!
Dan, just type that in the google seacrh bar thingy?? I have the google search tool on my computer..I will try ...
Thank you for presenting this.
