For those of you who haven't heard the news, my husband and I are expecting! My estimated due date is October 9th.
This past Tuesday, April Fool's Day, to be exact, we went to the hospital for our first ultrasound, at 13 weeks. We were super excited to see the baby, since so far we'd only heard the heartbeat. As we were sitting in the waiting room, I suggested to my husband that we tell our parents we're having twins, as an April Fool's Day joke. He thought that was hilarious, and agreed.
Soon afterward, the nurse called my name and we went into the examining room. She asked us if this was our first ultrasound, and we said yes. I laid down on the table, she put the ultrasound jelly on my tummy and started moving the wand around. Then she said casually, "You know you're having twins, right?"
We looked at each other, and I looked back at the nurse, laughed nervously, and said, "That's an April Fool's Day joke, right? You're just kidding?"
She laughed - and then said that while yes, it was April 1, there are definitely two babies on this screen!
Once she pulled up the image, we finally believed her - it was amazing, and so scary at the same time! We were so shocked we couldn't laugh or cry, we just sat (or laid) there with our mouths hanging wide open. My first reaction was oh my God, I hope they are both okay, as though by not knowing that I was carrying twins I might have jinxed them in some way. But luckily, both babies look to be healthy and normal - in fact, they're measuring a bit ahead - Baby A was measuring about 13 wks 3 days, and Baby B was 13 wks 4 days - a great sign!
When we finally left (after giving the nurses a good laugh - they thought it was hilarious that we didn't believe it at first), we called my mom to tell her the news. And of course, because of the date, she didn't believe me for the first 10 minutes I was on the phone with her. Once I finally convinced her, she was ecstatic, as are the rest of our families. My husband and I are still digesting it all though - for so long I've had this picture in my head of what it would be like when we had a baby - the things we would buy, the places we would go, the things we would do as a family. I think now i just need to erase that old image and start picturing new ones with two babies!
Right now, I actually feel like i need to hurry up and start getting ready and doing things- I feel like I've lost a month, since twins often arrive around the 36/37 week mark - so I need to push up my timeline and start getting things done, like figuring out what the heck we're going to do with the room we've designated as the nursery (and how we're going to fit TWO cribs in there!!).
Does anyone have advice/experience regarding twins? I would love to hear any information and suggestions. Thanks!

Really, wonderful, congratulations.
Congratulations to you and our husband! I don't have twins but have really enjoyed being a parent. Both my girls are grown now (18 and 23) and it went so fast!! I guess because as a parent you never have time to just sit and reflect and you always have so much on your mind. There were trying and difficult times bringing up our children but you learn that each stage does pass (even the difficult ones) and you survive the tough times and enjoy the fun ones.
I hope you have a healthy and easy pregnancy too!
I have absolutely no idea what to tell you. My mom is an identical twin, and it runs in the family - usually skipping a generation. My sisters and cousins (children of her twin) used to joke about which one of us is going to end up with twins. Ironically, my husband had a vasectomy so we are not able to conceive 'naturally', and will have to go through In Vitro in order for me to get pregnant, which only increases the chance for multiple births.
Good luck, though! So glad to hear they are healthy. :)
My mom is Lori, and her twin is Deborah - I guess my Grandparents had a little bit of sense.
