We speak with David Yepsen, political columnist for the Des Moines Register in Iowa, Felice Belman executive editor of the Concord Monitor in New Hampshire, and Juan Vasquez, editorial page editor of the Miami Herald.
3- HELICOPTER PARENTS: When freshmen begin college they bring all the things from home they'll need to get off to a successful start. These days, whether wanted or not, their parents are also coming along, at least for the first week of orientation. Here and Now's Kevin Sullivan reports from Northeastern University in Boston on how schools are coaching these so-called "helicopter parents" on how to let go.
4- THE WEEK IN SPORTS: Semi-final matches at the U.S. Open, the start of women's World Cup soccer, the WNBA finals and the kick off of the pro football season are up for discussion as we discuss the week in sports with Bill Littlefield, host of Npr's "Only a Game."
5- IDAHO: Host Robin Young brings us a postcard from a family reunion of the Brackenberries and the Bradleys in Idaho. The main topic of conversation there centered around what would happen to the the buildings that formerly made up the Albion State Normal School, a teaching seminary founded in 1893 that helped put the town on the map.
