Here & Now: Could Sanjaya Win?

Sanjaya is the man with many hair styles singing on "American Idol." And some say he's only there because of an "American Idol" backlash led by radio's Howard Stern and a website called "Vote for the Worst." Both are trying to subvert the show by encouraging votes for Sanjaya, whose vocal chops pale in comparison to the other contestants.

But Bob Thompson, pop culture critic and head of the Blyer Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University, doesn't expect the campaign will succeed in making Sanjaya the next "American Idol."

I am so disgusted with the poor talent this year on American Idol.
I am from Birmingham, Alabama the home of Ruben, Taylor and Bo so we here in town are all HUGE Idol fans but we are pretty disgusted this year.

I am sure that if Idol is on next season.....they really need to "bring it" with talent because the singers this year are mediocre.

Sanjaya is already the start of the end of the show. But remember....the 3 judges are the guilty parties for letting him on the show in the first place so...if Simon hates it...he put him there.

Have you checked out www.youtube.com and done a search of Sanjaya? if not, there is a comedian that does a great video on there. LOL

I think that people are missing the point about Sanjaya. Since when do you have to be a great singer to have a hit CD? Paula can't really sing and she had several top 10 hits. Sanjaya really connects with the High School Musical crowd, and they have huge voting and buying power. Hanna Montana was on top of the charts for weeks - and I swear all of the songs were exactly the same. I don't think he's going to win (as good singers get voted off, their votes are going to slide past him), but he's going to be around for awhile (probably past Chris Richardson and maybe even Lakisha). And, the producers are most likely very glad of that, because Sanjaya is going to sell tour tickets and CDs.
