Years ago I went to Port Angeles, Washington to visit my sister, Jeannie and to record a children's music album. My brother-in-law, Rick, was the engineer, and their children also performed on the album. Jeannie harmonized with me too.
It was a great trip and one I'll never forget. I was keeping a journal that year and Jeannie saw it laying open and read what I had written the night before. It was about the dinner and how I was disappointed that the stuffed peppers didn't taste up to par.
Although it wasn't a big deal to me, Jeannie never let me forget it and has made mention of disappointing peppers (to get a laugh) ever since that day. This year we were gifted with a small little bell pepper plant to put in our vegetable garden. Jeannie put the words "disappointing pepper" on the card that accompanied the gift.
Sam put in in the ground and it seemed to be hesitant about growing for quite a few weeks. We were thinking that we might, indeed, be disappointed. The days got really warm in August and the pepper put forth a small green offering...then another one came.
As the days went by, the plant grew taller and wider. It delivered more peppers than I've ever seen on a pepper plant. Today, I sent Jeannie this picture with an email of gratitude.
As you can see for yourself, this was the opposite of a disappointing pepper plant!
And one more thing, my sister, Jeannie, is a great cook!

"Disappointing peppers" I love that! I hope to see that in a poem someday Granny!
There are few things more gratifying than growing your own food. I had the joy of going home to Iowa this summer and was reminded how incredible it is to have fresh local food EVERYWHERE! They had a year of disappointing corn though because it never warmed up enough.
