This piece has many more edits to go through but I wanted to share it! I FINALLY have written an inspired piece, thanks to Gerald!
Spring 2009
i want to photograph the essence of the light
but i am in awe--the shadows elude me
a burgeoning warmth moistens my spirit;
i can not capture the elusiveness of pink
the subtle hues in the landscape i cannot define;
but i see the glow is present while the sun sets and rises.
in mid-april the shadows plays tricks on my eyes
the lilac tree's branches mesh with the breeze
and the wind chimes become anxious and noisy.
i wait for the birds all night long
to hear their morning song blending
with the timbre of deep tones and high tones and tinny tones
a racket in my garden-becoming.
my therapist says i have to work on my sleep behavior
i don't want to argue with her but wonder about priorities
(to miss a school bus is a serious thing)
but to miss the Spring dawn is like
going an entire summer without the scent of the sea.
or without a camera or the sounds of wind.
after the sun rises i can sleep.
before the sun sets i can dig in slow-warming water-logged light.
Spring keeps me awake like a lover in my bed.
