We take so much for granted. In everyday life there is so much that we either don't know about or don't care about.
Sewing is one of them. We all wear clothes (whether we want to to not). LOL
My boys are learning how to sew. They may not know how to make a pair of pants or even a shirt, however, they at least will be able to sew a button on. That will at least get them through a tiny emergency.
I think that everyone should learn at least one thing new. It doesn't matter what it is or how long it takes you to learn it. Just learn something new.

I think it's great that you're teaching your boys how to sew! I think it's silly of parents not to want to teach their kids certain things simply because it's traditionally been considered more of a male/female thing to do. Boys should at least learn how to mend a rip and sew buttons on, if not more, and girls should learn to do something that would more traditionally be assigned as a "boys" thing. Kudos to you!
Great words of wisdom.
We went outside and built a snowman with the hat/scarf/eyes/buttons and all. I was freezing my #*@ off but my daughter had a ball. Now I can say that I have built a snowman. Now all the snow is melting and our snowman is sagging to the ground!
It is important to learn new things, it keeps the brain young.
My gramma taught me to sew...my mother wasn't very domestic.
