I found a new spot. I could not call it a hiking spot, but a sanctuary. I always have known this spot existed. There are some undercurrents in the pond and the ice that forms on the top is weak in the winter.
A local who retired from his job proposed to the town that it be transformed into a sort of sanctuary, or park. There are some rare trees at this park
In the past, it would be stocked by fish once each year for a fishing derby. Otherwise it had been stagnant.
I got out of the van and there I saw LOADS of beautiful, smartly-designed garden plots, granite seating, blossoming trees, butterflies and dragonflies, water lilies out on the pond, and HEALTH. I was amazed! For me this means a new sanctuary, a place I can go to contemplate, write poetry (finally!) and of course take some photographs.
The water lilies are beautiful, there are yellow and white ones, and I even waded into the muck to get a few photographs...

No wonder so many artists have been driven to paint waterlilies! They are so wonderful. There were frogs chirping along the pond edges--they saw me before I could see them and hopped into the water where I could not see them. There is so much life in this pond, whereas before it seemed to be a dark space of desertion. I am so inspired.

I might have played with this photograph above a bit too much...in my editing program it is amazing, but maybe against this white background there can be no justice. On a larger scale, you can see reflections of the sky and the tiny ripples which form as a result of the petals pressing themselves against the surface of the water. Just exquisite!

There is Bee Balm, Echinacea, Lavendar....I could go on. Butterfly and hummingbird heaven!

Photographs to lose myself in and it is good to know that the darkness has given way to beauty.
