More Flushing Roses

Here's another couple of photos from our garden. The rose used to be "Chrysler Royal; it had the same color as you can see in the photo, but it was once a hybrid. Unfortunately, when we had a contractor to do some work on the house, they buried the hybrid graft, and the rose reverted to its former type. It still has the same deep red color, but now is more like the natural climber that it once was.

In the foreground is a hydrangea.

A little closer to the front yard is a beautiful spirea. These photos were taken in the morning, and it was rather overcast. Even though I used a flash, the photos came out a little dark. Sorry 'bout that!

The spirea is lovely. Interesting about the rose and the rootstock. We always used to mulch the grafts in the fall so that they would survive the winter, but we always pulled the mulch back in the spring. I do like that color so it certainly is not a loss. I've seen some rootstocks that are completely different and nowhere near as flashy as the hybrid they'd been supporting.

Grafts and hybrids are just academic words to me. I admire the knowledge and experience you have with plants Peter. The flowers are lovely and it looks like they create a peaceful space around your home.

Wow, it is amazing to have these growing in your own yard. I'm jealous! I would say you have quite the green thumb to keep them growing year after year..:)
