What is your favorite lawn & garden tool or gadget?  Why do you like it?  Is there a tool or gadget you've tried that didn't live up to your expectations?

My favorite gadget is called the Weed Hound.  I think of it mainly as my dandelion puller.  I have found that the most effective way to rid my lawn of dandelions is to just pull the darned things.  Spraying them seems to wilt the flower and leaves but doesn't kill the root.  By getting up the root that particular plant doesn't come back. 

So what's your favorite tool???

Nature's lawn mower and weed puller! :) Of course it qualifies! I've always wanted a goat, don't know why, I just think they're awfully cute and a lot of fun.

I love my Garden Claw. I use raised beds, and it lets me turn them without back-breaking (and aching) work.

Felco hand pruners. I worked as a professional gardener for years and these are the best pruners out there.

Julie liked the weed hound until she realized dandelions are a formidable foe. I can't imagine life without my garden claw. I've broken sun baked sod with realitive ease, and later its the great turner cultivating tool. After than I like my combo hand fork, trowel.

Mine is my trusty Hori (Japanese digging knife) sometimes called a "hori hori". Perfect for digging in nasty rough or hard soil, for transplanting, splitting root balls and separating iris and hostas, and heck on weeds!

a winged weeder for quickly eliminating tiny weeds in large beds, then my garden fork to loosen the ground before I tackle a major weeding job and my English garden spade -cuts like butter through sod and plants to divide.

M K, goats are fun, but unreliable as grass mowers...they love your favorite flowers, vegetable gardens and young fruit trees too much. MIne think they should be allowed in the house as well. But sometimes in the fall I use them to clean up the perennial garden before the first hard frost.
