I'm single. My family doesn't have family gatherings, or birthday parties anymore. I have no nieces or nephews, only cousins I rarely see. I don't have any friends in the state to hang out with anymore, they all moved away after college.
I have a new camera, and I want to take pictures. I've taken pictures of flowers, some even considered weeds, just because they were pretty. I've taken pictures of a sign commemorating an old graveyard, a sunset and of a memorial stone. I've taken a picture of myself, and video of myself as I was trying different features out on my Coolpix L18.
So here is the question that's been killing me. What CAN I take pictures of? Can I take pictures of businesses or neat houses? I travel a lot and I come across these awesome huge nice historical houses and even the businesses are lovely architecture. But don't I need permission? My heart says I do, and that just wouldn't be economical for me. Frankly it'd be a little crazy knocking on someone, a total stranger's door and asking them if I can take a picture of their house or something in their yard. What about churches? Restaurants?
This is why I have stuck to my own dwelling and graveyards. You can't get permission from the dead and you don't need permission for something that is yours to start with. So, what is it I can take pictures of? What don't I need permission for?

Plus, you can always zoom in to a part of articheture - not just the whole. There is a whole big world out there that wants you to photograph it & share it with us!
:)
I love to see architechture pics, flowers, bridges, trees, animals...etc...everything!
Thanks so much for posting this to

I do photo essays about all types of festivals and exhibits that interest me and that I attend anyway. There is so much to do and see around here that I am years away from running out of material.
I have a nice garden that I do photo essays on or just post pics of new blooms.
To me it's kind of fun - I feel like a lifestyle reporter in the newspaper - weekend excursions and all that sort of thing - the beach is close and I've never even taken a photo shoot there.
There's at least 10 parks within a 10 mile radius I could do a nice photo essay on.
Restaurants are public and if there is a question I'd ask the owner if it was alright - as long as it is complimentary I'm sure they would be tickled pink to see a photo essay - article of their place. Who knows they might offer you a free meal?:)
My plan is do do a few restaurant reviews along the beach and just ask the owners if it is is ok to post on line - tell them - you are doing one on their competitor and I bet they have no objection - who doesn't like free advertising.
