Another Trip To Iowa City University Hospital Updated

No more trips to Iowa City Yeah!! As of April 5 09

Since we moved to Michigan our trips to the doctors most are under 2 miles

away. One of Larry's doctor is only 2 blocks away. The sleep study clinic we

ride our bikes to, no 75 miles oneway any more. It was the best thing we

did is move to Michigan.

Well another long trip to see yet another Doctor at the University for Larry. It's 75 miles one way which makes it expensive to drive ... but going to their doctors will be covered by his insurance.(May 7 3:15pm)

This time instead of seeing a specialist he is assigned a Primary Care Physician , which he told Larry he does need to get that sleep study. But one thing about the sleep study their are so busy we may not get an appointment for up to 6 mths. (I do have a C pap machine which cost $8,000 Not covered by inusrance) Doc told me the tubes and mask to replace is around $200 I told him so what look how much I have saved already... Doc told Larry if we find out he has Sleep Apena , he said if Larry is dx. with the sleep apena he wants him to use the machine durning the day to get used to it..

We had to wait for his medicine which took almost 2 hours...so we ate dinner at their Cafeteria

 

 

 

 

 

 

When we had left I had taken some pictures of the grounds and art work done by Iowian's and students. We have to go back in June so I will have to remember to bring a memory card so I can take more photos of our trip and share our experience

 

 

 

 

 

We got back to Newton around 8:30 pm , I talked Larry into going to Wal mart since we had to pick up some over the counter meds for him. The doc told him to take Alli since it will help with his weight and his high cholestral levels.

Sleep apnea is not a good thing to have. Alli has some very bad side effects so tell him to stay close to home for a while.

Sending some prayers your way. My dad had sleep apnea and they actually had to operate and take a small bone out of the back of his throat to enable him to breathe easier. It helped a little. He has the coolest scar now too, looks like someone slit his throat.

Tell Larry I've been through the sleep test and there's nothing to it, ya just have to make them document what happened or at least that's what happened to me.

There's nothing to the sleep studies. I've had many, since I was born with sleep apnea and diagnosed when I was 3. They didn't have CPAPs then, but I've used them for longer than I remember - I'm on my 3rd or 4th, and the replacement tubes, masks, etc., are delivered every 3 months without any problem. I've never laid out a penny! It's one of the very few thigs insurance has covered without even a deductible. Please be sure to check your policy and ask a pulmonologist for guidance. Our insurance carriers in the school system change every few years, and every one of them has covered it! Godd luck! Maybe you can even get all that money you laid out back!
