It May Be 40-Degrees, But Spring Has Sprung in Georgia (Photo Essay)

It started out as a rather chilly morning with temps in the mid 30s. By afternoon, the sun warmed it up to the mid 50s.

Prior to this cold spell, we were basking in 65 to 70 degree weather and actually had to run the air conditioning upstairs. So it didn't really surprise me to see so many signs of Spring in my neighborhood this afternoon.

I headed out with my camera to capture some of Georgia's Spring before it rolls into Summer and gets too hot. I also wanted to savor this beauty just incase the current cold snap we're having decides to kill off all these beautiful blooms.

Hope these signs of Spring helped warm up all of you that are still dealing with snow and ice.

beautiful...you've been warmer than us...but it was 29 degrees this morning and 60 degrees this afternoon.
Oh they are so beautiful! So far we do have daffodils in full bloom & some fruit trees & the Redbud trees are blooming.

Jax, The dafodils in my yard have not even budded yet, but portions of our subdivision that get a lot of middday sunshine are in full bloom (as you can see). It's weird.

That was a good idea, Marianne, to get these beautiful flower shots before it either gets hot or you get another cold snap. Same deal going on here in Texas, with the crazy hot & cold temps! The flowers are just beautiful - love the light & dark pink-mottled roses - and the cherry blossoms!!! Sooooo wonderful! Spring IS coming...just gotta get through schizophrenic March! ;-D

These are beautiful pictures Marianne,- sure are great signs of spring in GA. (It is amazing how the rain seemed to bring out of the blossoms today..........yesterday as I was outside, I saw just couple azalea blooms and daffodil blooms, - today I saw the most azalea blooms on just about all my azalea bushes and the prettiest yellow jessamine flowers growing up around one of my birdhouses...........I too am afraid a cold cold spell is going to come and kill it all, sure hope not)!

Oh, those are BEAUTIFUL, Marianne! My favorite is the third from the bottom - gorgeous. I am definitely stopping at Lowe's in Macon when we go through there on our calls today. Time to get something to plant!

I tried to take pictures of some of the things blooming in my yard on Tuesday but it was so windy here that I couldn't I had one perfect, beautiful bloom on my apple tree that I desperately wanted a picture of and could not get it. Maybe I can get one today.

As another ice chunk falls off our roof, I am heartened by your photos :)
I now have spring fever and I am going to watch out for that ice as I walk out to get the mail and maybe see a crocus popping up its head (if any survived a recent ice storm).

It's a beautiful 68 degrees right now, but we have 2 cold fronts on the way tonight and tomorrow, which drop is to 51 for a high tomorrow and 44 for a high on Saturday. Welcome to the yo-yo weather of the South, ugh!

Beautiful captures. I am so ready for spring. The only thing blooming in my yard right now is the daffodils and the yellow bells.

I may have to go flower hunting this weekend!

Marianne, this was a beautiful photo essay! It got very cold here last night, I am in Florida, and it has been warm, but I guess we got a cold front! I miss seeing things start popping up, and tree buds, all the 'sprinbg' stuff that I miss out on in Florida. I guess I can't complain though, because I do got flowers year round!

Gorgeous photos Marianne, I wish I had seen all this. We still don't have many flowers here, just a few early bloomers but nothing as lush and beautiful as these. I hope to see the temperatures go up to stay.

Ha! This is one of those photo essays! By that I mean this: one evening I was going through the submissions to my photo essay group. I had okayed a bunch and was going through them tab by tab reading, commenting and closing when my computer went insane and closed all my windows down. I ended up just saying screw it and just quit. This was one of those photo essays! I have not commented on it even though I okayed it to the group. Yeah, I know, I'm too overly excited about this fact. I was sore distressed at the time about it. Great photos, Marianne. I'm so glad it's spring and that things are green. I was getting extremely depressed with all the shades of brown and death around here.
