Many of you probably remember the photos of sculptures I posted here on Gather over the summer. They were from "Sculpturewalk 2007" in downtown Sioux Falls here. 73 sculptures were submitted from artists all over the world and placed along the streets of downtown. People were allowed to vote for their favorite which would then be purchased by the city and put on permanent display. In addition the sculptor receives a cash prize of $3,000! The results of the voting were published Sunday.
Receiving The People's Choice Award, winner of $3,000 and having his sculpture purchased was...
Gregory Johnson of Georgia and his entry:
"JACKS STORYTIME!"

Receiving Second Place and winning $2,000 was..
"Tuckered Out Angel" by Sherri Treeby of South Dakota (this was also my favorite)

Third Place and winner of $1,000 was Susan Geissler of New York's "May Flower" and Puddle Jumper!"

May Flower

Puddle Jumper
This has become an annual event in Sioux Falls. Normally what will happen is people and businesses will come forward after the judging to purchase several more sculptures for their business or donate them to the city. Hopefully that will be the case this year too.
There were other smaller monetary awards and drawings for 10 other sculptures as well, and the sculptors received some assistance with transportation costs of the pieces to Sioux Falls.
If your interested in seeing more of these sculptures, many are posted in my images gallery here on Gather!
(For a limited time only, admission is free! Simply show your "Gather" i.d. to the guard before entering) C);-)

It's good to see 'Jack' happily reading his book! Also, I especially liked 'Mayflower' as I've enjoyed tilting my head up when raindrops were falling on my head. 'Puddle Jumper' reminded me of the glorious movie scene dancin' and 'Singin' In The Rain. I've done that a few times, too.... even walking out of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and down 82nd Street on my way to a fav restaurant! I think every child and adult should enact it once in a while!
