I work at a superstore that is similar to Walmart. I am mainly a cashier. Sometimes I also work at the customer service desk. I enjoy the use and flexability of cell phones. But I also believe that there is a time and a place for them. While someone is checking out our groceries or waiting on you at a service desk is NOT the time to be using a cell phone. If you are in a restaurant and the waitress is there to take your order, do you carry on a conversation on the phone or do you put it aside to give your order? It is very hard to give good service to someone if they can't even put down their phone long enough to hear how much they ave to pay. Today I had a couple come through my lane and both of them were carrying on cell phone conversations. They were so busy talking that they couldn't even wait for me o give them their change and their receipt! They were two lanes away when I was ready with their change. When I tried to get their attention, they just waved to me!
I also hate it when they can't get off the phone at the service desk. When someone comes to he service desk it's because they want something. You would think they could say...I'll call you back in a minute. Sometimes they just set something down on the counter and expect that we will know what they want us to do with it. It really gets me when someone can't stop talking long enought for me to cash their payroll check. If it was my check I would want to make sure it was done right.
Thank you for letting me vent! What do you think about ths? have you ever had a problem like this?

A good deal of people don't though.
I understand exactly how you feel (cashier most of the time), and you deserve props for still giving excellent customer service.
