Digital Camera Repairs?

I have a Konica Minolta DiMage z20 digital camera.  I don't know what happened, but the shutter is stuck between open and display screen.  I can see a mirror dangling in the display window, plus there is some sort of loose bracket.  My question is this: Is it possible to repair a digital camera?  And if so, is it cost effective?  Would it be better to just buy a new one?

Oh, I already have my new camera picked out. LOL. I've had my eye on the Canon Rebel XTi 10.1 MP at Costco. Wow, I sounded like the kid from "A Christmas Story" in my head. Thanks for your answer and the link Chip! I looked at the Nikon off the website - pretty nice.

Any camera can be repaired, take it to good reputable camera store, they usually have a repair facility they send out to. There are not a whole lot of places that do the actual repair, so you are going to have to shop. If you have a Ritz camera store or one of their other named stores, they most likely will have a place they send out to.

PS Get an estimate first, sometimes cheaper to buy a whole new camera than repair one.

Good thing about the Nikon digital cameras, they accept all of the lenses from their 35mm cameras and all of the accessories. Don't know if Canon does that or not. Do not rule out Kodak, they are becoming a leader, and in fact make most of the parts for Nikon digital cameras, the digital parts I mean.

I recently bought a refurbished Z650 from the Kodak web site for $150. I love it.

The Kodak Z series is a step above a typical point and shoot but not quite an SLR. I got it cause I wanted the 10x zoom so I could do more nature photography.

I had a Fuji Fine Pix camera a few years back (I LOVED IT SO MUCH!). Well, one Christmas, my husband thought it would be fun to spin it around by the strap. He dropped it on the tile floor! Nothing shattered, but it had big dark lines across all of the pictures after that. I was furious! We took it to a camera repair shop and paid them $50 to look at it, just to tell me that it couldn't be fixed. They even called Fuji and they told them it would cost more to fix it than to just buy a new camera.

Corrine, to be honest with you I'd go with buying a new or even slightly new off Ebay. You can leverage the purchase cost just by selling your defective/broken camera on Ebay..Makes sense.

I just had an estimate done on my digital point-and-shoot and I can definitely get a better camera for what it would cost for repair.
