If I have been doing my job back, you all know that I wrote a book about blues women, T'ain't Nobody's Business If I Do. I think that my book is entertaining and I hope that some people pick it up and discover blues women they never heard of and give them a listen, because that's why I wrote it.
That said, mine is not the best blues book ever created. I believe I may be reading that book right now. It is called Between Midnight and Day : The LastUnpublished Blues Archive by Dick Waterman. Waterman is a blues promoter and photographer who has managed such greats as Son House and Bonnie Raitt. These are his stories and incredible photos of blues legends. The photos were mostly taken during the 1960's, during the first blues revival, and they are just incredible: Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Skip James, Sippie Wallace, Bonnie Raitt..so many wonderful performers, many no longer among us. The personal stories, so far, are riveting. I'm in love, and I'm only on page 40!
This is a BIG, coffee-table type book. I found out about it when I was researching for my blues directory, Blues News at http://bluesnews.boomja.com. It's available at Amazon Marketplace and at Dick Waterman's website, http://www.dickwaterman.com, but I got mine from Powell Books, who had the best price at the time. (I try to use my Gather gift cards or my Paypal money from articles to buy books, and so I have to be thrifty.) If you have any interest in the blues at all, you should look for this book!
