The first INXS album (vinyl!) I ever purchased was Shabooh Shoobah, and this song quckly became my favorite. I'm sure my parent tired very quickly of it.

I'm a very big fan of Michael Hutchence and INXS, (although after KICK they sort of fell by the wayside musically) so the original is my number one pick.
2. AFI--i love the way Davey Havok sings the lyrics.
3. Matchbox 20--I've always liked Rob Thomas and he does a decent job here.
4. Jars of Clay--interesting.
5. New INXS--last on principle. Sure, he sounds similar to Hutchence, but he's not Michael Hutchence. No one can replace that guy, and really, they shouldn't even try.
It was a sad day when he died.
I have to go with the original here. Im not fond of the Matchbox 20 or Jars of clay version for the most part. I do like the AFI version. I like the new INXS version little to none. Not fond of the new guy at all.
Hi dubya ess arr. Well well. A bunch of bands I don't like doing a song I don't care for. Where to begin? I will credit INXS for being part of the only game show on TV I ever liked: Rock Star INXS. Mostly 'cause of Brooke Burke. But that show right there, that was the way AI should be.
Jars. I saw them in Monterey at this Christian Woodstock kinda thing. (I played the main stage that morning with a band from a big area church) I thot I'd like them 'cause of their hit. Turned out to be their only good song.
I can't hide it. I hate Rob Thomas. Not on a personal level just his voice. He ruined that Santana song.
"Shouldn't try"? Are you saying that any band whose singer dies shouldn't try to replace him?
I've enjoyed this. :)
No, just the ones I like. ;-)
I know where you're coming from chica. I didn't like Freddie Mercury but Paul Rodgers is definitely not the right guy for Queen.
I definitely agree about Paul Rodgers....what about Adam Lambert?? (ha ha I can hear you already!)
It's funny. Pop music used to be nothing but covers. Up through the 50s it wasn't unusual for there to be 3 or 4 competing versions of a song. In the beginning of recorded music records were seen as a way to sell sheet music and music publishers wanted to get as many versions of a song out there so people would buy the sheet music. Long after records and radio replaced sheet music as the cash machines, covers continued to be the norm. With the rise of singer/songwriters and rock bands that wrote their own material things changed.
A lot of the early hits for people like Elvis were covers of songs by black artists. Pat Boone did a cover of "Tutti Frutti," Little Richard's version of a New Orlean's favorite originally called "Loose Bootie."
Pat Boone? That's funny. I might have to look that up.
I LOVE INXS and I was devastated when Michael Hutchence died. So I guess that's to say that I am biased too...I like the original but I also am a lover of music and I like to explore new sounds and I am usually fascinated to hear and discover any "cover" versions of popular songs or songs I like in general.
But here it goes...My favs
1-Original...hands down...nuff said
2-the new INXS...Only because the band still sounds good together. I watched the Rockstar INXS program to find a new singer and am happy with them picking JD but still not anything like Michael...:(
3-Matchbox 20...just because it sounds good and Rob Thomas is a good singer
4-AFI...I have heard of this group but until now I don't think that I have heard of anything they have done. I do like their version though. They make it current with a punkish emo flare. Kinda reminds me of The Cure and Morrisey
5-Jars of Clay...I think this was not that good. Maybe mostly due to the video quality so I will have to see if i can find another version of this.
Mr. Lambert would be perfect.
I agree.
and I shall second that emotion!
INXS takes this one hands down! Of course I too am partial or was partial to INXS when Michael Hutchence was alive and kickin'.
None of the rest really matter ~ to me. :O)
I'd have to say the original followed by AFI. Jars of Clay - umm...definitely not.
