Seems like a lot of people didn't think that she deserved to be inducted, but I disagree--I think she deserved it as someone who has been involved in the music industry for so long. I have been listening to Madonna for most of my life--at least 24 years now--and she's had a major impact on me.

I dont think she deserved it. I dont think she is that talented, if it wasnt for her porno shows and videos, I dont think she would of made it. She is not that good looking, and she is not an actress.

Rock is kind of a loose term and pop does fit in there somewhere. Madonna definitely earned her entry. One has to consider the bigger picture, too. She did not work alone, and in fact had some of the best musicians and producers help make her music what it is/was, and she never stayed in one musical style -- something most artists can't claim. I rest my case ;)

I am torn, also.. I like a lot of Madonna songs, and I think she's one smart woman whose made a lot out of NOT a lot of talent. She's pop, though..

Why not a Pop Music Hall of Fame? That would be fun :)

Miles Davis (Jazz, bebop, fusion, anything but rock)
Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss (easy listening, pop jazz)
The O'Jays (R&B and Disco)
Prince (multi faceted)
The Dells (R&B)
Isaac Hayes (R&B)
Chet Atkins (fits nicely into country, but wide ranging accomplishments)
Michael Jackson (the KING of pop)

The Bee Gees (Disco, R&B, Pop)

Ok... the list goes on and on. Why is everyone making a big deal of this?

I think that she would certainly have to fall under a different category than Rock! She deserves credit for what she has done with her career, but I do not think that recognition should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. And I do not think that Justin Timberlake has a clue what real music is, and should not have been introducing anyone for this ceremony.
I certainly agree with the fact that Santana should have received recognition for many songs, long before the one he did. :-)

I guess that when I think of Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, I do not think of pop/r&b being a part of that. Oh well, I guess they know what their rules and criteria are.

Hmmm... maybe I had a miss understanding on the "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" concept, I figured it was a place for all genres, but like the major legend making artists/bands. I actually didn't think it was just for the "Rock & Roll" genre.

Well, I am not a Madonna fan, I really only like maybe a few songs of hers. But she is a legend in the music industry of her own right, so the recognition she gets, she deserves, as I see it.

I always thought her popularity was more because of her ability to shock and put on a good show (with a lot of help) than any talent. It's a shame they chose her in my opinion.

You know, any more I just pretty much laugh at it all - most of it is so ridiculous! As much as I always loved Paul McCartney, I was astonished when he was knighted. ...and as for "Sir" Mick Jagger...are you KIDDING me?????? These hall-of-famers are no different in the "Ridiculous and Absurd" category... ;-D
