I couldn't believe it when I heard it. Madonna. Madonna? MADONNA?????
For those of us rock fans who suffered through years of Grammy Awards where the likes of the Beatles were ignored, and where Santana's worst song is the only one that gets recognition, this is another slap in the face.
Madonna is extremely talented. That is beyond question. But her genre is pop, not rock. Although I don't care for most of her songs, there are a few ("Live to Tell", e.g.) that I truly enjoy. But again, that's not rock -- it's pop.
If that wasn't bad enough, who introduces her at the ceremony? Justin Timberlake. Justin Timberlake? JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE??? The bubble-gum-gone-hip-hop-wanna-be?
I guess this is what happens when you put the Rock & Roll hall of Fame in Cleveland!
Sheesh!

Jonny Cash is in the top greastest rock stars of all time ?????!!!!!!!
Long live Madonna!
Why not a Pop Music Hall of Fame? That would be fun :)
Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff (R&B)
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (Hip Hop)
The Ronettes (R&B pop)
Blondie (sorry, POP)
Miles Davis (Jazz, bebop, fusion, anything but rock)
Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss (easy listening, pop jazz)
The O'Jays (R&B and Disco)
Prince (multi faceted)
The Dells (R&B)
Isaac Hayes (R&B)
Chet Atkins (fits nicely into country, but wide ranging accomplishments)
Michael Jackson (the KING of pop)
Solomon Burke (R&B)
The Bee Gees (Disco, R&B, Pop)
The Jackson Five (R&B, Disco, Pop)
Bill Monroe (bluegrass)
Ok... the list goes on and on. Why is everyone making a big deal of this?
I certainly agree with the fact that Santana should have received recognition for many songs, long before the one he did. :-)
Well, I am not a Madonna fan, I really only like maybe a few songs of hers. But she is a legend in the music industry of her own right, so the recognition she gets, she deserves, as I see it.
