Here I am with video camera in hand hitting the streets! We jumped right into the crowd to find out what you do without a wristband or badge. Turns out there's lots to do!

By 3pm 6th St. was already filled! Every bar is open and has music spilling into the streets. Live bands are everywhere - performing on the street and in the bars.

This is SXSW's EMS truck - EMERGENCY MUSIC SERVICE!

People from all walks were already out and about. While I was recording video a girl walked up and put a sticker on my shirt that read "I am not a nugget." So I just had to to take a picture.

That's not a peace sign...beers here are only 2 bucks!
It's off to rest up for tonight. More pictures, blogs and video to come!

Remember: We'll be watching!
:=)
Thanks for the kind words U.K. I'll be posting video, pictures and blogs to Austin.gather.com all week! And Donald, funny you should ask. I was into DJ'ing a long time ago. Hope to pick it up again some day.
Rock on!
DO NOT let us down!
Have fun!
Have a good enough time for all of us, Jason!
Those two dollar beers oughta help.
free show at the Cactus on Saturday night (it's in the UT union if you've not found it yet, nice listening room but small for SXSW crowd size) -- about a dozen good songwriters. I posted the schedule in a comment at Julia's 3/15 SXSW article. I think you'd especially like Gurf Morlix, Rod Picott, and Staton Bonner. my favorite of the ones on the schedule is Caroline Herring, who won best new artist at the Austin Music Awards a few years back.
