Becoming a writer is tough work, and, sometimes, not as easy as it seems. Though Better Than Ezra has been in the entertainment/music business going on twenty years since being established in 1988, it is quite a bit of work trying to find credible information in regards to the band and their fans, the aptly named "Ezralites". Internet searches have turned up loads and loads of information---some correct, some incorrect; most of the searches have come back with reviews (good and bad).
However, since my book is a tribute to the band, reviews are obviously not the ideal way to acquire information on Better Than Ezra: though most reviews have some useful information, they are also written with an opinion. Being that my book is a tribute to the band and their fans, I have decided to post a home made video ad asking for help from the people who know the band: their fans.
Yes, I am a fan of Better Than Ezra---yet, I'm a newcomer. I didn't begin listening to the band until the year 2005, after being re-introduced by the CW show "Smallville". Yet, BTE was established in 1988 (proudly exclaimed on their tour shirts) and have been on and off the charts steadily since 1995. This means that I've missed quite a bit in regards to actually getting to "know" the band. But, in order for a tribute to be complete, it definitely should include BTE's earliest history....and evolve as the band evolves.
Therein lies my dilemma: finding information via the internet isn't tough, yet, some of the information I've found has been ambiguous and teeming with the writer's opinion; I've also written the Better Than Ezra's current band members, their general office manager who is known as Stella, and have even attempted contact through My Space. I realize that they are rock stars/celebrities...and I'm not really known, especially since this would be my first published work in many, many years. Phone calls are next on my agenda---AFTER one IMPORTANT element is FULFILLED: the element I speak of are the FANS.
I am seeking fans of all ages---the older fans (people who have followed the band since their inception) AND the newer fans to participate in this tribute to Better Than Ezra. Though band members Kevin Griffin, Tom Drummond, and Travis McNabb are aware of their fans in terms of concert attendees, cd sales and the like, they really don't get to "see" their fans thoughts. This is why I seek Ezralite participants---I want to compile the thoughts and feelings that Ezralites have in regards to Better Than Ezra----as well as provide their history. This is my reason for posting this video ad here on Gather: I'm hoping that maybe I'll receive a few responses from people who truly enjoy Better Than Ezra and wouldn't mind sharing with me!
If interested in participating, please respond to me here @ gather or through the manner mentioned in the video....I normally will respond within 48-72 hours. Please make sure you include your e-mail address and the memo: BTE Tribute book. I look forward to working with all the fans---the older and the newer!
