In honor of the first snowfall of the season and the jubulant sounds of children and teachers shouting praise and hosannas for the first snow induced school closing of the year, I present for you a song I wrote about the joys of driving in the snow. It’s called Deck the Roads, and is sung to the tune of Deck the Halls.
I’ll spare you my voice this morning, but feel free to sing along on your end.
Deck The Roads
Deck the roads with ice and snow,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
‘Tis the season for driving woes,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Scraping windows, such a pleasure,
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la!
Don’t you love this wintry weather?
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Salt trucks come to clear the ways,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Coat your windows in a crusty haze,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Is that car turning? Can’t be sure,
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la!
The windshield’s as frosted as a shower door,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
The light is changing tap your brakes,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
The car responds like it’s on skates,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Careening, sliding, over-steering,
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la!
Pray for mercy between the swearing,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Tire tracks look like a DNA strand,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Your bumper just clipped a minivan,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Airbags exploding in your eyes,
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la!
Now you know why Santa Claus flies,
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Fa-la-la-la-la,
la-la-la-LOOKOUT FOR THAT TRUCK!!!!!

We Renoians are used to snow - in moderation. But we get tons of Californians moving in who've never driven on a single flake. It's a hazard, I tell ya.
Thanks for posting toChristmas Magic!
Why is it that people forget how to drive on snow every year? I couldn't believe all of the cars in the ditches.
I loved the song. It took the sting out of wanting to grab some jackass (who blew their horn at me to get me to drive faster) by the throat and rub their faces in the road slush.
