Reading the comments is pretty interesting. The number of 'wow, good jobs' appears to be inversely proportional to the quality of the piece. (For the non-mathematician, that means the more one-liner back-pats a piece has, the worse it is.)
I don't like to be negative, but this is depressing. There were a few truly good chapters in the first round, and only one of of them made it into the second.

And Stephen, the second Chapters Writing Competition is going on right now -- this one for romance novels. You can find lots of these (more than 300!) by searching the "first chapters" tag if you want to read the entries. There are some really great ones, and it's been a lot of fun both participating and also commenting on the other entries! I don't know about upcoming contests, though. You might try posting your question in the contest group. Good luck! :)
