mine was that long too. i cut it all off before i started chemo. Now i am on a different medication and my hair is growing back but just not fast enough..
~Jamie W. Aug 18, 2009, 8:09pm EDT
could your doc recommend some sort of vitamins that you can take with your meds?

When I was first diagnosed with hyperthyroidism after an operation, I was losing my hair by the handfulls. It was very scarey.

Where is the doctor?

Since I was sick this winter, I've lost so much hair on the top of my head that I can see my scalp when I wear my hair certain ways. My hair has always been so thick that I had to have it thinned. Will it come back now that I'm better?

Also I'm on over 13 medications.
Connie C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:11pm EDT
Sharon,
Did you get your book?

When I first started getting dark stiff hair under my chin, I pulled them out with tweezers. Now there are just too many to do that with. I have began waxing them just this week.
♠~Dnbuster~♠ ~. Aug 18, 2009, 8:15pm EDT
I have started tweezing them too. I have never waxed does it hurt, i am whimp..
Shelbia C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:15pm EDT
I hate to admot it, but I have actually had to resort to shaving mine. I would love to have electrolysis. Don't know if I spelled that right.
Connie C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:15pm EDT
Not too bad. It got red but the redness was all gone the next morning.
Connie C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:16pm EDT
Shelbia,
I was tempted to do that too. I did not know what kind of Doctor too see and it was so embarassing. The waxing helps and my face feels so much smoother.
Shelbia C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:31pm EDT
I haven't tried waxing. I have so much that I was afraid it either wouldn't work or hurt a lot.

Hyperthyroidism also creates high blood pressure, eye problems, etc. Some doctors think that it is caused by stress, etc. I had a very stressful situation, but also had a major operation that I did not completely recover from. My thyroid was damaged.
Connie C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:11pm EDT
They told my sister that her hair falling out was a result of stress too.

I am told the medication may be causing some of my hair loss
Connie C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:15pm EDT
That is what they told me and after reading this book I now believe it. The book lists medication that will cause your hair to fall out.
J F. Aug 18, 2009, 8:16pm EDT
Yes, meds can do that. I am on many meds. Now that my thyroid has been removed, I am hypothyroid. It is the opposite. You are sluggish, your hair gets coarse and you have excess hair even with taking synthroid.
Shelbia C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:16pm EDT
I was supposed to get a copy, but it didn't come

Since your thyroid controls your system and organs, it is important to have it tested. Especially for women who are going through menopause or are done. I had to have my thyroid removed because it was getting to a dangerous point for my heart, eyes, etc.
Connie C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:14pm EDT
Adrenal Glands will do the same thing. I have lesions on my adrenal glands and they have really messed up my body big time.

I am having trouble loosing weight because I have mobility problems on top of my other medical problems. When I had my thyroid removed, I took the option of surgery. I have had many friends that have done the iodine treatment and are now sorry. There appears to be a higher risk of breast cancer in women that have that done.

I have sensitive skin, so I would not use any treatments for my hair. I even use hair removal creams on my face and had to stop because I burned my skin even with following directions.
~Jamie W. Aug 18, 2009, 8:23pm EDT
I have really sensitive skin as well. I've tried a few, but they really irritate my skin too much.
J F. Aug 18, 2009, 8:28pm EDT
I thought Sally Hansen would have been an excellent brand because they even gave vitamin E for after use. But unfortunately I had a terrible burn on my face. So, no more of that stuff for me.

I hate that I can not use the nair creams they burn me, and when i do use them they do not remove the unwanted hair effectively
Shelbia C. Aug 18, 2009, 8:27pm EDT
I have that problem with my facial hair. They never take it all off and the make the hairs darker so that I have to shave or tweeze them
J F. Aug 18, 2009, 8:32pm EDT
Shaving just makes it worse! I would never do that. I would tweeze rater than do that. I also use a small pair of scissors for my face to get as close as I can. I will not take any type of hormone therapy. I have too many other medical problems and the risks are too high.

I get chemical burn when I use things like Nair. I also get bad razor burn when I shave my thighs. I'd hate to know what would happen if I did anything more than that.

Question - do you shave/remove hair from your thighs and tops of your feet?

Thighs - yes
Tops of feet - no. I have hair there, but it's really light so I just let it be

Yes. I think most women have to. I then use a baby lotion or mineral oil later on. Not right away. I let my pores close first.

Thighs yes. Tops of feet no. I really don't have much hair there.

Has anyone else ever tried threading? I had never heard of it until very recently, but my hair salon offers it. Had my eyebrows done a while back, just to see what it was like. It was less expensive than waxing and less painful, as well. It is supposed to last longer but I can't tell...
