My mom is taking all 3 of my kids this weekend. All 3. Yes, all 3. Yay!!
When we lived up north, we lived by Nick's family. Now, for the most part, they would take the kids here and there for a few hours if something came up. But rarely just so we could go out to eat and see a movie on our own, or anything like that. Mostly, it was for brief amounts of time, interspersed with calls of the "Are you done yet?" nature.
Needless to say, we didn't get out a lot. We did get out from time to time, though. My family lived over an hour away, and would sometimes take 1 child for a weekend, or extended time over the summer if that child was my oldest daughter. My family LOVES taking her, but rarely offer to take either of the other two.
Anyway, when we moved down here to Lansing, we were suddenly just a bit over an hour away from ANY family. We have never made it a practice to hire baby sitters from outside the family. You just never know -who- they are, you know? I mean, unless it's a close friend of a family member, or we knew the person for a long time, it just didn't happen.
Instead, we just never go out. Or if we do, we take the kids. Most the time, "date" night is ordering a pizza, and renting a movie that's family friendly.
I can't even begin to think of the last time we were kid free for an entire night- let alone an entire weekend. I'm so excited!
I'm meeting my mom half way tomorrow after work. Then, on Sunday, it's my neice Alex's first birthday, so we're going over there for that, and bringing the kids home with us.
Yay! Only.. let's see. About 15 hours left with kids! Nick and I are planing to eat out and see a movie. Not sure where we'll eat, or what movie we'll see, but we're darn well going out! We may even go out to breakfast one of the mornings. Gotta live on the edge when the kids are gone, doncha know. ;)

I am a stay at home mom as well, and only have used family as sitters when needed.
My hubbys one sister used to take kids about once a month for us, which was sooo nice. She just moved two states away in Feb.... sigh.
I hope you have a fun time!!!
Yes, Nick's excited!
