All About the Lovies

Most children have at least one.  You know that cozy security blanket or special bedtime friend or teddy.  That thing that gets dragged around until it is so dirty and torn, but still the child loves it.  Although many parents secretly wish the darn thing would get lost, they would move heaven and earth to find it if it ever really does get lost!

So, what kind of lovie does your child have (or did you have as a child)?

my 22 year old daughter still has the remnants of her blanket.... it's rags now but try to take it away from her!

She used to throw fits when I would wash it ... it didn't SMELL RIGHT anymore

my daugher had "bedtime bear" of the care bears and after losing it once and spend a frantic day searching for it, I went out and bought TWO more of them and kept switching them on her so they all got equally well worn. (big tip: when you do this throw it in her bed or dirty laundry for a while to acquire their smell, I know it sounds bad but it helps)

I had a cotton filled baby with a plastic head, hands, and legs that my great grandma put in my crib when I was born. It went everywhere with me. Poor thing.

Myself nor my children had a lovie of any kind. When my daughter was five she was give a doll that we named Jennifer. Her dad build it a wooden rocking craddle. It had every little wrinkle on its hands and feet and face and neck too. My daughter would wrap it in a blanket, take it out to eat with us and every place she went. Women would come to our table to look at the baby it looked so real. Of course then they felt foolish. 26 years later Jennifer is sitting right here beside me in her craddle. Every little girl that come here , there first request is, where is Jennifer. We all call her by name.

I still have my "silky" in an old jewelry box I used as a girl. My mom made me give it up when I turned 4. My older kids all had something, but never really got too attached, using one blankie or another. My daughter had her thumb and we're still trying to break her of it (7 years later!). My youngest had a special blankie he called his "tubby" (after Teletubbies). Lost one, then another (devastating to the little guy). Now he's older but still sneaks a soft shirt into bed at night to suck on (Kindergartener). LOL.

I had a favorite small teddy bear. It eventually got moldy after being left outdoors, and my mom said it was time to throw it away. I think I was about 7 at that point, and I definitely felt a pang when Teddy got thrown in the garbage, but he had served his usefulness.

My son loves his "fire blankie." It was one of the first blankets he got as a baby and has a teddy bear on it and says Hug Me right above the bear. One day, my son usually leaves his blanket in the car when we go somewhere, but on this occasion he brought in it and accidently threw in the fireplace where it actually caught on fire. Managed to save it, but had to cut several chunks out where it got charred. Doesn't matter to my son because he stills love carrying it around with him.

My son had a blankie, and it is in shreds now. I can't seem to throw it out. My daughter didn't really have one as a baby, but has a favorite blanket now. The need to have it is not as intense, since she is twelve. I had a blanket that had sating around the edges. I would rub it and suck my thumb. My brothers took it away from me, and I stopped sucking my thumb.

P.S. I nursed my sons. A pacifier helped to calm down #1 before he could latch on! #3 used to station stuffed animals around his bed to keep away ghosts. 'Nuff said.....

My 11 year-old son refuses to give his up. My friend made it for him when he was a baby and it's only the edging that has frayed at all. The fleece and outer material are still holding up fine. Amazing.

We don't have one yet. Although my son loves his little T-Rex. And my daughter loves whatever burp cloth is near by.

It's not really a 'baby' blanket, but in elementary school I loved my kitty blanket. It had a pocket at the bottom that kept my feet toasty warm. It got torn and throw. *tear* I still have my lovely little lamb though, I love her, she used to baa, I didn't know she would stop if I pushed it over and over again. I saved her after the apartment fire, I needed to, she taught me my L's.
