Watching the banter back and forth between Hilary and Barack, I notice that both try their best at one-upmanship at how evil those vile Republican Presidents were or are. I can understand the current need to vilify George W Bush, but what's with the Regan bashing?
Seriously, has anyone ever seen any Republican with Kennedy bashing; telling people how bad his decisions were and implying that any Republican who even considered mentioning anything positive about the man in a good light makes him (or her) a Democrat and not a true Republican? Now the Republicans do have the cooties monopoly (Oh my McCain you were seen next to Kennedy; you're contaminated) but in general trying to tar an entire party isn't going to get you brownie points in the general election. If the Republicans even thought of tarnishing the name of the great Kennedy the Democrats would be on their case faster than a CPU cycle on a modern computer. But it's always OK for the Democrats to bash Republican Icons, because well they just say it is.
So let this war to ad nauseam and let's go all the way!
Lincoln was a loony!

Jefferson was a jerk!

There is not a single discussion of politics on Gather in which Republicans like you, Christopher, do not add any mean-spirited thing that comes to mind about the Clintons.
It is a great concern to Democrats that Reagan not become a model of Presidential power.
It was Reagan who used American military dollars to train dictators how to torture, who turned a blind eye to death squads, who perpetrated the greatest unconstitutional acts (until bush administration), and who funded Islamic-fundamentalist armies so he couold claim the dubious credit for bankrupting the Soviet empire.
(just make sure you're not under a desk when you're 'looking up' to Clinton)
Thomas, are you assigning coercion, force, and fear as necessary components of the American Dream ??
It just seems that so many of our leaders have resorted to "coercion, force, and fear" (a fragment of a Mike Doughty lyric) to motivate us.
I think most folks would prefer to be inspired and elevated than frightened and badgered.
Anyway, let's do the numbers ...
results: 1,871 members found for political affiliation: Republican
results: 3,276 members found for political affiliation: Democrat
The point is crystal clear. I see more bashing of people from Democrats than I do from Republicans. One would think the group "Republicans on Gather" was actually "Let's Bash the Republicans on Gather" from all the hate posts I see there. If you don't have anything nice to say about someone then you should say nothing, which is why I never talk about Millard Fillmore. (Did I just insult a whig? I'm sorry.)

The latest I heard was that Bush was great because the average unemployment during his term was 0.0003% lower than Clinton's. What it doesn't mention is that when Bush got the job, unemployment was at 4.7% - when Clinton got the job, unemployment was at 8%.
Frankly, I'd rather politicians stop feeling the need to attack each other, and just work on fixing our country. I don't care what This Politician did wrong, I want to know what you're going to do RIGHT!
