This is the best news I have heard today.
Check out the story:

It really makes you wonder why so many Democrat reps and senators are really coming out and smearing Patraeus given that they will just reinforce their defeatist image.

Mike - I'm glad I'm not the only one confused.
As far as Gen Patreaus goes, the Bush Administration want a military man to "sale'" its' policies and string this war as long as possible. The Bush Administratin used the credibility of Colin Powell to go to war with Powell going to the UN to show off those "mobile biological labs." Now the Bush Administration is using Patreaus to stay the course and do business as usual.
The General should have stayed in Iraq because we knew what General Patreaus would say before he showed up to testify before Congress. Gen. Patreaus testimony can be summed up in one word- "Sham."
Brian and Kris; while it may make you feel better thinking that anyone who supports the war do so because either they or their kids are safe, you are pretty far off base. Do some checking before you make your claims...many supporters have friends or family there or have been there themselves...
Charles the war is being fought on the backs of the military and their families.
There isn't a draft where anyone could be called to service.
There isn't product rationing of goods like WWII for the war effort.
There isn't a switch from consumer production to war production
In this war the American population as a whole doesn't have to make ANY sacrifice. That's why it's easy to be for this war as long as you and your kid are safe, you get to drive yourself around in a gas hog of a SUV, watch cooking shows on TV, eat like a little pig and get big as a barn in the process. If that would change ,there would be a lot more Americans against the war than there already are.
It would also be nice if the Dem leadership and liberals in this country would want to win the war rather than just try to win political power.
What happened after OBL actually attacked us? He was in Afghanistan. Any reason why Dubya didn't finish that particular piece of business BEFORE the blunder in Eye Rack?
What we have from the Bush Administration is another attempted con job, but more and more Americans aren't buying the goods.
The Bush Admin has zero credibility and General Patraeus is just another Bush yes man trying to sale the war by painting a rosey picture. The General makes Iraq sounds like a vacation spot with all the progress going on-he should go back to Iraq.
A draft would get us out of Iraq in six months easy, have the cops knocking on your door looking for your kid and Americans would be rioting in the streets.
People would be flocking to Canada, trying to get school and medical exemptions you name it. They would show their true colors then- yellow. Just like the rest of the chicken hawks.
Try to be more optimistic. Look at history. Whenever the US has put it's mind to something, we've done it. This country is the best country in the world - not because we cower when threatened, but because we have our values, our history, our culture and, yes, our faith to pull us through even the darkest times.
The enemies of liberty and freedom are always out there - they are the ones you should be aiming your slings and arrows at - not this country.
Although a different subject the response to Katrina wasn't the entire Administrations' fault, there was failure from the mayor to the Whitehouse. But Katrina showed the Administrations' willingness to bend the truth to the actual situational facts on the ground for their own gain. This Administration placed a political loyalist Mike Brown to head FEMA and that cost lives right here in the USA. This appointment was based on political connections not skill and ability.
My issue isn't with the GOP or with conservatives, which I generally have a respect for (neo-cons are a different matter for me) other than the Bush Administration and his die hard loyalists who place loyalty above honesty, America is in pretty good shape.
Also, there really hasn't been suffiecient time for a thoughtful person to consider everything Petreus has to say, so I wouldn't really be cheering his remarks at this point if I were you. It suggests you are simply happy that he didn't declare the surge an unmitigated failure.
He "knows" or he "believes?" What a dumb shit.
they basically lied from day one of the war in Iraq.
They "lied" or they made "errors?" You sure can't prove any lies, moron.

Yet more moveon.org/dailyKOS talking points without a shred of evidence. Idiot.
neo-cons are a different matter for me
Jew haters come in all stripes, you're just a loser bigot.
Liberals are only humanitarian if they can enslave people with welfare programs. They do not care how many people get murdered when it comes down to actually doing something about it. I actually saw someone deny that there were rape rooms in Iraq under Hussein. Anything to make themselves feel better without consequences or action.
They praddle on about how the Iraqi Freedom was illegal but they want an illegal invasion of Pakistan. What sense does that make? Yes, they say that we should illegally invade Pakistan but do not take into account that it would take more troops than we have available.
