I am constantly hearing screeds from the left that the Repubs in general and the President in particular are trashing the Constitution. This claim they back up by their interpretation of of Constitutional Law and how a given piece of legislation (invariably Repub. sponsored) is eroding our rights and that the right has no respect for the Constitution. I will often times challenge this assertion, but am not sufficiently versed in Law (Constitutional or otherwise) to feel comfortable debating case law or details to that fine of a point. Rather, I try to put legislation up to the smell test, and if the odor is there, call it for what it is.
Now, however, the Democrats in both the House and Senate are attempting to craft legislation that would give Washington DC full representation as a state, meaning 2 Senators ( Dem no doubt) and a full member in the House. Currently that "delegate" votes in commitee and floor votes, as long as that vote will not decide the outcome, but not on final legislation. Democrats pushing for full house membership are citing Congress' constitutional power to "exercise exclusive legislation over the seat of the government" They also claim that this power gives them the authority to NULLIFY ARTICLE 1, SECTION 2 of the Constitution, which specifies that members of Congress be chosen by people of the states.
Now I'm not a lawyer and am not especially well versed in Constitutional Law as previously stated, but if Congress has the power to nullify part of the Constitution, then why bother with the a Constitution at all? If they have this "exclusive legislative" power then they can wield it at any part of the Constitution they see fit.
(You know that right to bear arms is a real pain in the butt, let's exclusively legislate it out of the Constitution)
The real reason for this is simple. State level representation means to more Senators ( Dem ) in the Senate as well. This is a blatant assault on the Constitution and these self important bags of wind are so delusional they believe the Constitution is, I guess< a guideline to follow until it's inconvenient and then they can just change it. Talk all you want about the right and alleged Constitutional infrigement.......The left is now OPENLY claiming the right to void specific parts of it that they find political unfavorable......
Where is the outcry??? Are the same Libs who scream for the sanctity of the Constitution, SO partisan that they will sit idly by while their party openly attempts to cut and paste our founding document? Talk about hypocrisy.
The media silence on this is deafening....But we weekly hear about civil rights violations against terrorists held in Guantanamo......Bizarro world is closer than we think.

Mitch, I was talking about Pennsylvania, not Jersey. It's a related issue.
I don't care who marries whom, but it's curious how the sequence of events evolved. Teresa Heinz all but forbade Heinz from running for president. Once whe married someone with her political views, she was all for it. Makes you wonder why she married Heinz in the first place, doesn't it?
Corzine is a whole different story. It's hard to understand how such a greedy, self-serving piece of slime could get elected.

That means direct democracy where the voters are the final word on any piece of legislation a politician makes up.
I am the leader of a provincial political party here in BC and this is our goal. We only need to hold power "JUST ONCE!" After that? It don't matter any more.
For you in the states, you need only have one state adopt such a policy and the fire will burn out of control until every state, or at least the majority will have it, then a constutional amendment can be made which will screw up politicians federally. Obviously this isn't happening over night. But it must happen or politicians will sell us down the river.
