Poor Mack's confused, he's still a kitten,
He doesn't understand the white.
His whole world has just been rewritten
The one he knew? Gone overnight!
He steps out slowly: one paw, then two,
Leaps backwards, lands inside the door.
Why is the ground so white and cold?
What happened to the ground before?
He tries again, this time he scratches,
Trying to dig beneath the snow.
But he can just uncover patches --
The job's too big for his small toes.
And when I turn to pick him up now,
He's quite forgotten who I am --
Is it a monster? Evil snow cow?
Either way, it's time to scram!
Experiments may be well and good
But kittens like the salmon kind.
The choice of trout or chicken would
Feel so much safer from behind
A nice closed door, before a fire,
The world still green and bright outside.
Poor cats don't like this icing mire,
Where earth and plant-scents whitely hide.
