Welcome to Writing Essentials: Humor Monday

The new week is starting and we here at Writing Essentials: Humor Monday are going to do our best to send you out into the world with a smile on your face and a song in your heart. Well, at least the smile part.

In honor of Valentine's Day, coming a few days hence, our humor theme today will be, you guessed it, Valentine's Day. Or romance, love, relationships and any other related topics.

Don't let that stop you from posting any of your writing of any genre or format, but if you've got the humor, we've got the place to post it.

To get you in the mood, I quote a few love related jokes:

These are funny! I had an ex-boyfriend who told me loved me on our first date- isn't it supposed to be the other way around??? I actually jumped and yelled, "what???", lol...but I guess he didn't scare me off :)

Emma, what you experienced is actually true. Of interviewed married couples in a study: 50% of the men knew they were in love on the first date. 50% of the women weren't sure if this was "special" after the fifth date.
I think it's a Junior Brain thing myself.

It took four months to build a 10' x 10' shed. The phone guy who had been working the new subdivision noticed. He told me it had to be love because there was no way on earth it should take that long to build anything. I just thought he was slow...lol! After we got married it took a week and a half to build a 20' x 40' deck! 18 years later, the family still calls him the "Shed Man".

Jane, it works with Macs but you have to use Firefox (free and a great browser). Better than Safari for posting articles on gather in general. Images sees to post well with either.)

Even though it is Friday, I just wanted to let you know i left a comment about the ongoing comment and avatar situation around here on my last article. You were kind enough to drop by and leave what I assume was a full comment that came out in bits and pieces in the comment form. I responded to it as best I could, considering. At least it was better than the totally blank comment I got before that, with just the writer's name down a comment box of invisible words. Even my magic decoder and invisible ink pen (specially made for computer screens was useless).

It could even result in a humorous article but not from me. I'm still in the "first cup of coffee, don't anyone talk to me yet" stage of the day.

John - By the way, I just wanted to note that your take on the guide program is one of the most sane responses I've seen lately. I, too, think of Gather as a community or culture, with all the pros and cons of any online community. When people are involved in anything, you can be sure there'll be politics, bumps and confusion. Add to that a lack of face to face interaction and differing opinions and I have to say that I find that the warmth, fun and laughter on this site is amazingly high, considered. It is very easy to misconstrue verbal tone, inflection and emotional meaning from comments and writings.

Heck, it is hard enough to understand tone, infection and meaning when you ARE talking to a person face to face!
