Unity08 Primer

For those who are unfamiliar, Unity08 is an organization with these three self-admittedly audacious goals:

Elect a truly bipartisan Unity Ticket to the White House team in 2008.
Make history by nominating the next President and Vice-President through the first ever online, virtual convention.
Demand a focus on crucial issues by creating a New American Agenda.

Join up (for free of course) at www.Unity08.com and nominate your dream ticket. Discuss various political ideas, other people's nominations, etc. Later an online convention will be held, and a serious effort to draft & elect a mixed party ticket will ensue.

Just for the record , the ticket I came up with was Gore-Powell

Why not think out of the box and not have anyone from the TWO main parties ... I mean look how the Republicans and Democrates have screwed things up over the years that they have been the controlling parties ... just a rambling thought.

Although most of the nominations do come from the 2 major parties, there is a category where you can nominate lots of different people, from Joe Lieberman and Bernie Sanders to Martin Sheen and Charles Barkley.

Sounds fascinating. Please submit an article saying why this ticket - what strengths, why obama-dole rather than dole-obama, etc. My goal is to bring out specific ideas, goals, strengths - have a really good discussion via logic and reason.

Everyone,

Any ticket is worth considering, but consider it on the merits. Let's use this as a platform to air our hopes, dreams, aspirations for this country. There are plenty of places around Gather to state that the other guy is an idiot. Passion is welcome here, but incivility is not, nor is lack of a cohesive argument.

This is a wonderful idea - exactly what's needed to get the country to focus once more on what's good for ALL of us, not merely "interest groups."

How about Nader-McCain. I think Ralph would bring out the best from John McCain (remember way back when he liked things like campaign finance reform). Anyway it's an interesting concept. Unfortunately, elections are about money, and a bipartisan ticket would never work. Sorry.

Kurt I do want to see Gore Drafted, I would be willing to have him drafted by the Democrats and the Republicans. But I would put Bill Richardson on the ticket with him. Richardson is probably the best qualified man currently in the race, and Gore beats him by only a hair's bredth in qualification by right of having been Vice President. Not having Gore in the White House while he is still young enough to be effective would be a small tragedy for the country.
