For some unknown reason the Steller's Jays I have been feeding for years have suddenly become very generous when it comes to my photography. Actually slowing down and even posing for photos. Perhaps they have decided to be nice, but more likely it's the 100 degree temperatures that's slowing them down. I would like to think they like me but oh well.
All jays are noisy and this one is no exception. Sometimes even sounding like a hawk I always know when they are arriving. Like their cousin the raven they are smart they can even remember where they have hidden things.
I feed these birds year round they love peanuts, bread, and pet food if it's left out. In the winter a trio of these jays will peer into my kitchen window if their feeder is empty. Letting me know they're ready for some grub.
The Steller's is a larger bird than the Blue Jay which is common in the eastern part of this country. I think they are a lot bluer too.

They have many of the same habits as the Blue Jay and some similar markings.

Preening overhead it's feather detail really stands out.

They know where those peanuts are and if I am gone for a few weeks they remember.

This poor guy is panting in the heat.

I like this shot the best.
