The male birds started showing up on May 11th the females I first noticed on the 14th. Seems like the males always show up first. I guess the breeding season is more important to them. In this case they are on their wat to thee breeding grounds.
These birds are beautiful but they don't possess an equally beautiful voice. It's just a plain loed "chirp". Multiply that buy over thirty birds, and it can be a little annoying. Needless to say I wasn't overly sad to see just six birds this morning. Three males and three females.
The following photos where taken May 28th, 2009 in my yard in Ellensburg, Washington State.
Here a female is checking me out.

A male does a high wire act.

This female is making sure I am not a threat.

I think this guy is posing for me.

I find the females just as pretty as the males.

This male is sitting in the spruce waiting for his turn at the feeder.

Squabbles are common place. Every body needs their space.

No she isn't falling off her perch, she's taking flight.

This is a common shot.

Eating and sitting pretty. What more is there ?

Yep he's posing for my camera.
