Oh...and remember how thrilled we'd all get when we spotted an Oriole? Mama called them her little sunset birds because of the blazing orange and yellow feathers on their chests. It's been months since we've been graced with their beauty or haunting songs.
Santos, why do you hurt your Papa like this? Did you not see me cry when I was ordered by Government officials to cut the trees down? Coffee makes them rich son, not birds.

I stumbled across a disturbing article which outlined the impact of non-shaded coffee farms on birds. Non shaded coffee plants produce more fruit per plant but flavor is lost.
Also lost is the natural habitat for many migratory birds.

I love coffee...in fact just started drinking it at the age of 48! Crazy...isn't it? I personally am going to check at the store to see if I can find shade grown coffee to buy.
I knew it Penni, and then I forgot until I started doing some research the other day.
It is sad June...because I think birds are some of the coolest things on earth.
wonderful ~~and I will be more aware of how my everyday" take for granteds" may impact another's lifestyle or entire eco-system...frightening..
