What brightened beak and snow-capped stuffing?
Asks the riddle of the puffin
From coastal Maine to high Scotland --
Those British Isles will make their stand.
A clicking clown, petite penguin
Pert and poised with silly grin
The young ones, pufflings, need a hand
They fall as droplings -- put 'em back!
So kids in Iceland get off school
To tend these tender flying fools
They'll catch a fish, swim through the seas
Then spiral up on icy breeze.
Like those cute birds, I've known some girls
Who seem to capture in a whirl
Their love is rapture, hearts are twirled
Then released -- away they doodle
A force of nature brisk and brutal.
So enjoy the bliss you've earned
The captured kisses never spurned
As paradise flies up to greet you
In saddened eyes and lips to treat you.
It's nature's tapestry of dreams
With light and magic, birdly beams
Just look at the disguise it's stuffed in
And solve the riddle of the puffin!
