Are We Under Siege?
Do you remember an X-Files episode about animals escaping the zoos, circuses, and homes and running wild through civilization with no regard or fear of man?
Or, are you old enough to remember Hitchcock's The Birds? Birds, all types and species waged war on the human population of one seaside town.
The point, if there is one, is that strange things have been happening with animals and birds in my town - my state. This past week there have been three encounters with black bears. One bear went into a medical clinic in Santa Fe. Two days later two more black bears were wandering the streets of metropolitan Albuquerque.
Yesterday morning when I was heading out to the store, I saw a Roadrunner running down my city street. Roadrunners are New Mexico's state bird - yeah, I know; you don't have to say it. I've seen these birds in the rural areas of New Mexico but never in the city.
I also read a Gather article (sorry, I can't remember who wrote it) about the author noting strange behavior with the birds in her area.
Have any of you noticed strange animal and/or bird behavior where you are? I do find all this peculiar.

You may be right, Arlene. But the forests around here are protected. I was thinking maybe the bears lost their mom and wandered into the area. They were fairly young. I don't know about the Roadrunner...
We always have racoons and deer walking through here. I make sure my kids are in the house by dark because I have seen deer MANY times at dusk making their way through.
I now get attacked by sparrows a couple times a week when I go out on my front porch. They swarm my head because they are trying to nest on my porchlight. Amazes me that they picked that spot, since it is only about 6 ft off the ground and I can reach up and touch it.
I saw the result of what was probably a Perigrine falcon attack (they eat pigeons). But that's just a bird doing what comes naturally,
