Since Lars had found his Shepard pup, it was high time I set about getting my cat before that pup got here. I wanted her to have time to get comfortable before a rambuncious little pup arrived on the scene. Let me tell ya, it is not easy finding a kitten in Sweden. There are a ton of them... but they place the ads as soon as they're born so they go fast, and they cannot leave their mother over here until they are 12 weeks old. 12 WEEKS! That ain't even a kitten any more... I mean really...
So. I began searching for a female capable of bearing kittens. That's right. If I want to have kittens and watch them grow, I gotta do it my damn self. So I did. I found the most adorable little cat on a farm down kinda close to Lund. I emailed the owner. she was a great gal. We had a bit of fun onna counta she isn'y Swedish either, she is Danish. So betweent the two of us stumbling through bad Svenska, we got the deal done. HA! Luckily, she spoke better English than Swedish, as it turned out...
So Kahlan is a farm cat. She was born there and will be a year old this summer. We drove down around lunch time yesterday to get her. Ohj ohj ohj. She did not want to be got. Not at all. Even Lonnie could not coax her out of where she had run to hide in the barn.
So we went back this morning at breakfast. Now, I am not a morning person. Getting up at 6 is not an issue for me anymore, I usually am up at that time... but actually being coherent and getting dressed to go fetch a cat is another issue entirely. I stumbled to the car. Good thing Lars was driving. heh....

This time we got her! She wasn't real thrilled about it, but she will be. First she ran and hid behind my bathrobe which was draped over my Ab Revolutionizer machine.
I petted her a little bit, laid out food and cream and set up the litter box all here in my office. I want her to get used to one room and be comfortable before I let her run the house.
I also have a ton of silly toys for her. Eventually she may even like them. HA! So anyway, I got my cat and I think she is beautiful. Kinda black with dark brown calico markings. Gorgeous. She is gonna have pretty little babies once she gets used to the change and her surroundings. I shoulda named her 'baby momma'

Now she is laying at my feet back in the corner under my desk. I left her in here by herself for a few hours while I went to paint a bit so she could explore unbothered and this is where she ended up. Funny, that. There is a brand new nice blue cat bed with a scratching post on top, and a platform on top of that sitting right here waiting for her.. but no. She wants the floor. Ohj. Just like a damn kid.

By the way I heard of this article in the feel good gather group...it is one of the highlighted articles for today! Congratulations.
Sarah... I thought you would like that name. I figured since this cat is to be the mother to my kittens, and Kahlan is the Mother Confessor... it just fit. heh. I am half-way through the second book in that series right now. You were right, it is very good ;)
I'll let ya know if I ever get around to actually using the damn thing... I am soooo bad.
Have a great day Lori!

BTW, I found this in the Feel Good Group. Randy had this highlighted as one of the "must read" articles.
First, when I visited Latvia a couple of years ago, the place was run amok with cats. I couldn't believe when I read you couldn't find one in Sweden!
Second, the fact that she laid at your feet made me feel better about this excursion for you. I adopted a feral cat a few years back that never adapted. She was always wild due to generations of in-breeding and whatever else was stagnating in her gene pool. I tried for months to help her adjust, but it did no good. I wish you and your new baby a better experience than I had with my Aunt Bea.
so, I am going to just have my own damn kittens so I can watch them grow through the cute stage. HA!
Kahlan has been a rough sell, though. She is used to having all her siblings, mom, aunts, uncles and a ton of other animals around her... adapting to being in this strange house with us mere humans is not going well for her... but yesterday she did finally use the litter box, and this morning I saw she had finally eaten. that was a major relief! I was going to take her to the vet today if she hadn't eaten yet or drank any water. I was worried she would dehydrate. But now it looks like all just might be well...
