Carla is trying to figure this site out.

I've been a member here for a little over a month, but only started trying to figure this place out about a week ago when I saw my points going up!

I also heard that if you make enough points you can get cash and that would help me out a lot, so I'm thinking of some stuff to post in a few days to get those points.

Do you have tips for me to pump up my earnings? I don't want to be someone who just posts junk so I need all the help you can give me. What do you like to read or look at? What stuff should I post? Should I have more friends? Help me please!!!!!!

Well the beginning of the month is right around the corner. You need to get about 3000 points in one month (so you have the month of April if you think you're ready to go for it). I'm just now getting into the swing of things around here, so I'll be trying to hit that goal next month.

As for the rest, it's up to you! The sky is the limit around here, it seems, so whatever you want to post, post. Making friends will give you more people to comment on and vice versa, so you'll earn points that way

You'll have to reach 3125 points in one calendar month in order to get an invitation from Gather for the cash program. Then you'll need to fill out a tax form, fax it in... then you can ask for payment by PayPal or check and the payment comes quickly either way. Anything you earn over $600 a year will be taxable though, but I was taxed for my 2007 earnings and it wasn't that much at all!

As I understood it, it was only 3,000 points in one calendar month. Am I wrong about that? Jeez it's hard enough making 100 points in a day. I am really working to get there, too, Carla.

Wanda - it's the equivalent of $50, which is 3125 points. I'm pretty sure it still says that in the help section, but they might have removed it. Let me go check for you.

I just came back from the help section and there it says:

How do I earn cash instead of points?

Once you earn $50 in a calendar month, you'll be eligible to earn cash, subject to Gather's discretion.

It takes 62.5 to equal $1, so it would take 3125 points to equal $50. Hope that helps!

Yes, it does help. I have been seeing that some people don't get the offer for cash, and I see it says 'at Gather's discretion. I wonder what would be something to disqualify a person from getting the offer.

I totally understand, Wanda!

I was the same way last year when I was trying to reach that cash option. I think it says at Gather's discretion because they review your points to make sure that you haven't earned any of them fraudulently like by breaking the TOS or anything like that.

Also... a few times Gather has offered promotions where they give members additional points for posting photos or videos or offered points as winnings during contests. They haven't offered anything like this for quite some time, but when these things were going on... the points you may have received from those promotions did not count towards the required 3125 points it takes to be eligible for the cash option. They added that disclaimer in there at that time to cover all their bases.

I hope you're able to get it too, Wanda! The cash helps my family out a lot because I'm able to pay for my prescriptions or other every day bills with the extra money I earn here and other places online like Boomertowne.

I also spin the wheel at GreenBackStreet.com and Netwinner, read paid emails from mypoints, sendearnings, inboxdollars and complete surveys from different companies to help out financially. All those places add up and since I'm a stay at home mom anyway, I can do all these things in between getting kids ready for school, taking care of my toddler, cleaning the house, making meals - you name it.

I do many of those things too, Faith. My kids are grown but my newly acquired husband and I are don't have a large income so any little bit helps. And of course, the real reason I am on gather is to network, learn more to improve my writing and get published at some point. I am writing 2 different novels and so I don't want to go back to work. ;o)

One more thing... so above I said that the amount you need to earn is 3125 points in one calendar month, but after doing a search on Gather about this very thing... I see that there are people saying that the lingo has been changed to "3000+" points instead of 3125. I'm sorry to add to the confusion, but now I'm confused because I can't find in the help section where it says this, but people are talking about it. I must have missed something... sorry! Yikes now I don't know what you should be shooting for, Carla. 3000, 3000+ or 3125... or even more??? HMM

for you experienced gatherers...if i were to get 3000 points between now and may, and then get the 3000 in june and be offered the cash option, would i then have $100 since it would be 6000 points?

Pretty much, Jessica, assuming I understand what you're asking. Just under $100, because the $50 mark is for 3125 points, not an even 3000. And depending on what gather's level is, now - reading faith's comments above. (I would try to shoot for the higher number just to be safe.) I earned cash option in Oct, knew I'd earned it so didn't cash out, and didn't receive the invite until Nov. 20 so had most of Nov on there, too - it all rolled into cash.

I agree with Lune to shoot for the higher amount. Am not sure why Gather changed their lingo and still can't find it in their help section, so maybe it was stated by Tom in one of the recent chats.

And definitely go for the 3125. I think people just say 3k or around 3000 for the sake of simplicity, but it certainly causes some confusion. :)

I am at 769 points and that is after cashing in last week. I don't get the cash option yet. The first month I was here I was still learning things so my points didn't go up as fast as they are now. Now that I have been here since 2-13 my points are going up pretty fast. I keep posting pics, aticles, and I go comment on lots of stuff.

I am currently at about 3190 points. I need to get about 210 more points before monday to make my goal. I think that I will be on gather all day monday to make sure it happens. Will not have a lot of gather time today & tomorrow.

I have no idea how the points system works so I would say just try to give good comments on what you see and write articles or share images that people can connect with. That always helps. me. Interestingly, when I do not focus on points I tend to get more. I just try to share what I think people might enjoy knowing about, from funny to serious. I write but other people prefer to do photo essays :)

just post as much as you can, get a lot of connections, and comment on other people's stuff. that is the best advice that i can think of. i still haven't gotten to 3000 in one month. i had a hard time getting to 1500 in one month. i just can't devote enought time on here to do it.
