...You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground.
You run with them until you are both breathless.
They crash ~ you add a longer tail.
Finally they are airborne, but they need more string
so you keep letting it out.
With each twist of the ball of twine there is a sadness
that goes along with the joy, because the kite
becomes more distant and somehow you know it
won't be long before the beautiful creature will
snap the lifeline that bound you together
and soar as it was meant to soar ~
free and alone.

Thanks!
Thanks and have a great day!
I saw that on a refrigerator magnet. It just about sums up my feelings about kids.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I am happy that I was able to share this with everyone. :D
Do you have children??

Thanks for stopping by!
I guess all mothers experience this and I am sure it only gets more difficult with time, not easier.
I am so glad that you stopped by and hopefully Elena is doing much better now; healthwise.
PEACE.
Thanks for stopping by!

It's been like that for my daughter. While I was afraid she wouldn't be able to make it on her own, she has been able to survive both with all the string let out and through those moments when the string was almost more weight than she could handle.
Thanks for your comments!

Don't steal.
I, like esther, did not know who wrote it. She states it is anonymous/unknown. And it was REALLY nice reading. I for one am glad she posted it. My first comment was going to be:
Excellent analogy in poetry. Whoever wrote it knew a lot about parenting; more than most of us. Thanks to the last comment, I can rephrase it to say, Erma Bombeck knew a lot about parenting. Kudos to her!
E, thanks for sharing.
