I have been playing with my digital camera and its accompanying software in the last few days, and I'm pleased with my results. I always wondered how all you super photographers added spectacular effects to your already stellar photos, and now I know! I've had fun fiddling with some pictures of the sunflowers in front of my house -- which have now been completely consumed by the neighborhood finches, so I'm glad I snapped these shots when I did!

This is my original photo, a single Velvet Queen deep orangey red sunflower with golden-tipped petals.

I decided to see what it would look like to add an "antique" filter to the original photo, and this is the effect I achieved.

I thought that was very pretty. Then I decided to get a little more bold... I decided to take the color out altogether!

After I took the color out, I decided to add some back as I saw fit. First I tried blue.

I liked the way that looked, but thought I'd like to try a different filter color. Mauve? I also tried playing with the color saturation feature and got a really pretty effect.
Woo-hoo! This was fun! What next? It seemed like the possibilities were endless. I liked being an artist. I also got drunk with the power I had found! :)

I noticed there was a "vintage" filter available, and I was really curious to see what it would do to a sepia image. Here's what I got!
This reminded me of an old tin-type photograph. I really loved this effect, and used it to enhance some more of my photos, which I plan to print at a later date. Maybe I'll even post some...

Then I added back some color and used a soft-edge filter, with the following result.

Finally, I decided to really go for a unique look. I super-saturated the image, adding a warm filter to the color to really emphasize the yellows and oranges of the original photo.
This is my first photo essay-type post, and I know the pics are smallish, but I'm going to try to figure out how to correct that. Any tips from those of you who do this all the time? I'd appreciate it. I hope you enjoyed this little tour through my garden, and next time I'll show you the glory of my Star of Yelta morning glories!

GREAT WORK. NIce shots, looks like you were having fun.
Now you will find that you can make something from any images you snap and you can borrow bits and pieces from one image to another.
My first major edit to an image was to take my parents out of a picture where they had been standing next to my husband, because I need him alone for his family reunion booklet. I felt such a sense of satisfaction when they both looked at the edited image and couldn't even tell where they had been. LOL
That was in 2000 and I have been playing happily like a kid with a box of crayons and an unlimited stack of paper ever since.
Thanks, Adele! That one was one of my favorites, too!
Dawn, I like that one, too! I'm thinking about making it my Gather icon. Opinions?
hope all's well....we miss you in GEG
