Working in the field driving tractor for a dairy farmer, I didn't have to milk only drag, disk, and plow with his big tractor all day. It was just for a few weeks as I went into the Air Force and off to Lackland AFB right next door to you.

Oh it was terrible. I worked for the Public Health Department in NYC. I cannot for the life of me remember much about the job - except they sent me , ME! a private school, East Side 18 year old - to pass out questionaires in a women's prison. I was terrified, because the women kept poking me with the pencils I handed out. I left after 4 months.

All through high school I worked at Plimouth Plantation dressed up as a winsome Priscilla Mullins. I really wanted to work on either the Mayflower or at Plymouth Rock because tourists gave big bucks to the interpreters...but those jobs were only for guys!

Jackie, I was 14 and my dad asked me to take inventory of the guitar picks in his music store. Sound easy? There were hundreds of them. I think he just invented some busy work for me. I think he paid us a quarter an hour.

First job was serving in the cafeteria at the National Guard. First real, regular job was as a checker at Hy-Vee Grocery store. I made $3.50 an hour, which was considered a very good job since minimum was $3.35. I was constantly reminded that this job was a priviledge.

Worked with ACTION - part of PeaceCorps/VISTA - while in College in Los Angeles. I was placed in the scholarship office at Manual Arts High School - in South Central L.A.. I grew up REAL fast. I worked 40 hours a week and my stipend was $83.53 paid every two weeks. (1973)

I've been paying my way, in whole or in part, since I was 12. My paper route was 12 miles roundtrip and was split in two after I quite 4-years later. From there, I worked in a small casting plant making $6.52 an hour FT in the summer and after school (that was 24-years ago).

First labor job was farm work. Driving the tractor as the men picked up the bales of hay. Later i got to pick up the bales. At that point I thought I had arrived! But the first corporate job was Fisher Price toys. I put wheels on jets!!

I was fifteen and worked at a mushroom factory. No kidding! Cement block building with dark, wet rooms where we climbed these planted beds that went up high. We cut off mushrooms to put in the baskets we wore at our waists. I had to wear a battery on my belt and a miner's lamp on my head! Before that, a farm stand, for a buck and hour, and before that (I was 13, I think), I picked the green blueberries out of a blueberry line at a local farm. The conveyor belt went by and we had to pick, pick, pick as fast as we could t remove the green berries.

Paperboy (13). Was really good at it, years after I went on to other things neighbors would stop me on the street and tell me they still thought I was the best delivery boy they ever had.

I got a push mower and started a yard service when I was ten. I cut about half the lawns in the neighborhood, the lots ran from one to three acres. I would cut one of the big lawns early in the morning and a couple of the smaller ones in the evening. It left me with most of the day to goof around, go swimming, fishing, ride my bike and was pretty good money for a kid.

I worked at a sub shop. Nothing exciting except I quit after finding some disgusting looking condiments in the cooler... It was not a Subway, just for the record.
