Per an Associated Press release, the suspect may have shouted 'Allahu Akbar!' which is Arabic for "God is great!" before the shooting rampage. Military officials are still trying to piece together the circumstances which left 13 dead and many wounded, including the suspect.

Officials are not ruling out the possibility that some of the casualties may have been victims of "friendly fire," that in the mayhem and confusion at the shooting scene some of the responding military officials may have shot some of the victims.
The suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was on a ventilator and unconscious in a hospital after being shot four times during the shootings at the Army's sprawling Fort Hood, post officials said. In the early chaos after the shootings, authorities believed they had killed him, only to discover later that he had survived.
Fort Hood Lt. Gen. Bob Cone praised the soldiers for their quick reaction.
"God bless these soldiers," Cone said. "As horrible as this was it could have been worse."

IF they use this as another EXCUSE to take away guns, we all loose.
I'd rather have freedom than security, because without freedom there is NO security.
Forgive me Linda, but our military are not taught to kill innocents. They are trained to shoot accurately their specified targets. Innocents aren't specified targets.
But many INNOCENTS do DIE. That's MY take on it.
THE SHOOTER RECEIVED ALL HIS EDUCATION THROUGH THE MILITARY, AND ALL MILITARY PERSONNEL GO THROUGH BASIC TRAINING. HE BECAME A DOCTOR/PSYCHIATRIST ON GOVERMENT MONEY, WHILE IN THE MILITARY. THAT'S THE FACT.
Early reports had the shooter dead, but now he is reported as stable. I'm guessing he will wish he'd died. There is no question that this action was traitorous. Does it qualify as treason? I'm sure there will be much discussion and investigation.
Let's all pray for the families of these brave Americans. What a senseless, wasteful, evil action this shooting was.
I don't see how that's relevant to the tragedy. Doing what Hasan did pretty much requires being insane. I'm guessing he suffered from some horrifying paranoid delusions. His religion and political beliefs really don't matter much.
The proper authorities will sift through evidence and justice will be done. The families of the victims deserve no less. Americans will demand accountability.
We want INSTANT answers, INSTANT solutions. Doesn't happen that way.
RIGHT NOW, I focus on the families of the fallen, who are left to not only deal with their grief but to try and make sense of something that no matter how many ways you turn it over, just don't make sense.
