Reported by Politico, eight of the ten members on the Republican Select Committee on Earmark Reform have sought earmarks.
John Boner (Boehner) , the dope eyed Republican, created this Committee on November 18, 2008 say he wanted to bring "meaningful change to the process by which Washington spends taxpayers’ hard-earned money."
Cantor and Boehner proposed that House Republicans not ask for earmarks until the committee's report, which had a dead line to be delivered no later than February 16, 2009, However, as usual, most kept asking for them anyway. Of course the report has never been delivered.
Committee Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) has requested roughly $129 million in earmarks so far this year. Her staff said they could not indentify a single reform recommended by this committee. The same response was came from Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), another member of the committee.
When committee member Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) was asked, he looked at the ground and smirked. “[The lack of progress is] disappointing, certainly disappointing,” He is considered to be one of the most vocal critics of earmarks in Congress. “We haven’t offered any more comprehensive reform to earmarks."
They are trying to blame the lack of progress on the fact democrats wouldn’t help by joining the committee. Claiming it was too hard for the ten of them to do without input from the Democrats.
I guess it is, since they couldn’t get all ten Republican earmark reform committee members to stop asking for them.

I support Republicans because they are the lesser of two evils....Still bad just much better than the Dems!
That would be a problem for me.
As I said, they are still better than Obama and his people.
In the latest elections the Dems won one important seat and lost two...I'm good with that and believe that it is a reflection of things to come!
If the Republicans do the same that the Dems are doing now which is ignoring what the public wants, then they too will loose at the elections in favor of a third party who WILL represent the people!
Sorry but at the rate the GOP is going they are going to keep the party divided, and they are going to sink their own ship......
I'd rather not speculate on how future elections look, but I'm not even optomistic based on the special elections this year...........
All I know is I'd rather not vote for the lesser of 2 evils, I'll vote Mickey Mouse before I vote for any evil.
Mooch
No I don't mooch,
I'm a realist! I know the damage the Dems are doing to our country and would rather let a lesser evil occupy the seat of power instead.
The Republicans are more likely to respond to the will of the people!
Couldn't help but notice, no link!
Today the Republicans better represent the regular folk than the Dems.
A new study by SurveyUSA puts support for a public option at a robust 77 percent, one percentage point higher than where it stood in June.

"I know the damage the Dems are doing to our country"
Dan, you are confused. As to the better of two evils, both parties have that claim.
Right on, Jim.
Well Dexter,
You shouldn't be so quick to thank David....Since the survey he posts shows that what the survey doesn't really mean what you think the survey meant! LOL!
Q:
Now I am going to tell you more about the health care plan that President Obama supports, and please tell me whether you would favor or oppose it.
Support 51%, oppose 43%
Once you step outside the headlines, made by people who are trying to bolster support for the Presidents/Democrats agenda the support for government run health care even in this survey is just not that strong.
In a more recent poll done by RasmussenSupport for government rum health care sits at about 45%.

"Dan, you are confused. As to the better of two evils, both parties have that claim."
Well Joyce,
Not really, it's just looking at things with a realistic perspective.
We are not going to get a third party who is more responsive to the will of the people in the next couple of years, and right now the obvious choice is to support the party that is suggesting the least damage to our country in order to get the party the is currently heaping damage upon our society out of power!
"SurveyUSA data collection for this project was underwritten by MoveOn.org. Poll respondents did not hear MoveOn's name. SurveyUSA is an independent research company and does not endorse any particular cause or ideology."
Do any of you think the questions were tested by MoveOn prior to being handed off to SurveyUSA? Did you notice that there was no information on where the survey was conducted.
In short, it's paid for by MoveOn... that should completely render that poll not trust worthy.
So... with all due respect, Dexter, that poll means nothing.
Sorry just my honest not so humble 2 cents.

It's part of the strategy to regain the Presidency, the Republicans know that many citizens will not accept the policies of the current administration/Democrats and are going to stay as far away from them as possible.
They will win seats and possibly the presidency in the upcoming elections.
Subject: No Rewards for Blocking Health Care Reform
Hi,
MoveOn members just pledged over $3.5 million to help a primary challenger take on any Democrat who helps Republicans block a vote on health care reform.
Now, we're joining members of Democracy for America to up the pressure. There's an open letter to the Democratic Caucus asking them to strip any Democrat who filibusters health care reform of his or her committee chairmanship.
I just added my name to the open letter. Will you join me?

Interesting, so the Republicans are only interested in their own reelection campaigns and not in addressing an issue that all agree needs to be addressed and has been ignored for three decades? Which of course is why insurance premiums rise every year at many times the inflation rate.
That seems rather self-serving. Guess I was under the impression that we elected our representatives to represent our interests.
Yes it is David, but a reality that any who votes must come to grips with.
"I wonder how many in Congress own medical industry stock???? "
Great question Dexter:
Opensecrets.org showed Obama receiving 11+ million in political donations from the health sector with McCain about half that, and Republicans receiving a little more than half of what Democrats received in the last elections overall.
I am not really objecting at this point, It just adds money to their district's economies, kind of sidways stimulus money.
And why don't any of YOU PEOPLE have a problem with the lack of scrutinization? I don't get it... to me, that is the 800 pound gorilla in the room. Show us ya got, Nancy!
Or misrepresenting the bill.
Killing seniors comes to mind.
What do you think about that? It would take the control of the purse-strings away from the congress, and every department of the government would have to show the taxpayers that they are doing important and valuable work. Meanwhile, each Rep and Sen would be answerable to his or her constituents for how their share of the pork gets spent.
Is that a win-win or what?
