This is Sunday and I cannot believe that in two more days I will actually have a life again. The rain started pouring down here today - late for the northwest where I live - and all I could think was... thank goodness Washington votes by mail. I realize how crazy this thinking is, but everything I experience these days is filtered through and linked to our political climate and our presidential campaign.
I am not the only political nutcake out there, so what are we going to do with ourselves on Wednesday? Am I thinking too far ahead for you? Okay, so you may be too busy calling those undecided voters, or the others with whom you think your own candidate has a chance, but what then? I am emotionally and physically exhausted from this campaign, still, every chance I get I check the polls, the newspapers, the blogs and have set my email for all breaking news political updates.
Even though my daughter works in politics and I have always been an activist for certain things, I have never volunteered as much for any campaign as I have for this one. I hope no one gives up just yet. We really do need every single eligible voter to exercise their Constitutionally-given right and pick the man who is best for leading our country out of this black hole. As Michael Moore has said, email blast everyone in your address book and remind them to vote.
I hope John McCain and Sarah Palin will go mildly into the night and I encourage him particularly to go back to Arizona or wherever he usually lives. Alaska still wants Sarah back, so hopefully she'll be back with her constituents and children soon. I wish them well. I really do, I just think Grandpa should give it up and Sarah should go back to school and actually learn something this time. If any of you think our educational system isn't in trouble, think about it. Sarah Palin is a college graduate.
And this Joe the Plumber business? Joe, of course, doesn't pay his taxes and is unlicensed in a state that requires licensing for plumbers, but who cares. He's one of the 'real' Americans, not the fake ones like me. Now Joe has a publicist and is seeking a country recording contract. McCain's latest promise to 'bring Joe to Washington' with him is even scarier. Do we really need any other neocon, but this time with borderline intelligence, to add to the Beltway?
Anyway, I am glad I am almost done working in the campaign. Today I realized I have exhausted myself almost beyond recognition when a passerby said hello and I asked her if she had voted yet. I have nothing left to give. Beyond the hundreds of hours I have called people, I phone-banked all last week too. My son-in-law and daughter are still phone-banking this weekend and my son and husband have also done all they could.
Hope some of you still have some gas left. We just need to find a way to make it through the next couple of days without having a complete breakdown.
Until then... Go Obama/Biden! May there be a new dawn on November 5th.

I think the new president's first order of business will be to try to unify Americans. I hope the holidays will help promote peace and good will.
You need a nice long bath and a nap after Tuesday. I'm with you on the outcome.
He said his friends recently arrived from Iraq say the Iraqis want us there, within days 50,000 Iraqis took to the street in a peaceful demonstration "DEMANDING AMERICA LEAVE THEIR COUNTRY!!"
A tax cheat and a LIAR as a spokesman?
I was wondering how he would top the Palin VP coice.
I am sure Sarah is appreciated by her Alaskan constituency, but she is also an opportunist who lets other people (including her constituents) pay for her lifestyle and that of her children. She is inappropriate in how she does business... but don't get me started. I do not feel any motivation to flatter her or pretend she got where she is on her abilities.
Me I want some payback, eight years of hell must be paid for.
I'm with you Don, I want pay back!
How is a big, fat pension, the presidential library and Secret Service for life different than those Golden Parachutes on Wall Street? The crooks in D C pointing fingers at the crooks on Wall Street.
I think a law should be passed against 20 month campaigns, Jen. Citizens should not be sick of politics by the time voting comes. It's all a trick to milk the money from everyone and give it to the 5 mega-corporations controlling the media of this country.
Can any of this be fixed?
Featured in the Triple Name Club.
Anyway, you can always come join us on a cruise on Sat. We are taking my mother for her 60th bday (which was in May but planning was hard to coordinate with 10 people).
And Joe the Plumber, or Joe the liar...seriously he lied about what the business would be making to start with and obviously he lied about being tired of all the media attention. So tired of the attention, hire an agent and go on the campaign trail with Grampy. That will stop all the media attention. Idiot.
And the prank call Palin got from the DJ. They refered to having watched her biography "Nailin Palin" which is an "adult" movie and she just kept on going not knowing they had just refered to a bio that isn't out there about HER. And her response when they said it was a prank, "oh, I always fall for that"
Deborah B., I sincerely hope it all goes well for you with the procedure. All I can say is as a cancer survivor I have been camera-tubed and re-tubed for the last 8 years and that exam is no fun. On the other hand, we all know the alternative if we do nothing. McCain.
I want to care about every American and hopefully over the next four years we will set a new agenda. Love they neighbor. I'll try... no, I will.
