Illegal immigrants are returning home to Mexico in numbers not seen for decades - and the Mexican government may have to deal with a crush on its social services and lower wages once the immigrants arrive.
The Mexican Consulate's office in Dallas is seeing increasing numbers of Mexican nationals requesting paperwork to go home for good, especially parents who want to know what documentation they'll need to enroll their children in Mexican schools.
The Mexican consul general in Dallas reports that the return rate is almost 100 percent more this year than it was the previous two years.
The illegal immigrant population in the U.S. has dropped 11 percent since August of last year, according to the Center for Immigration Studies. Its research shows 1.3 million illegal immigrants have returned to their home countries.
Some say illegal immigrants are leaving because a soft economy has led to fewer jobs, causing many laborers to seek work elsewhere.
Others argue that a tough stance on immigration through law enforcement has spread fear throughout the illegal population.
Remittances, which is the money immigrants send home to Mexico, have gone down dramatically over the past year. Partly because of the economy, and partly as a result of enforcement, leading to fewer people being here.
Advocates for immigrants are disturbed by the trend. Some families are being torn apart in the process. If a father is deported, his family members in America are forced either to either fend for themselves or follow him to a country where they've never even lived.
So the mother is saying we should return home with the breadwinner of the family to Mexico, and the children are saying, "I don't want to leave, I'm a U.S. citizen, I don't know that country."
Mexican President Felipe Calderon plans to help returning nationals by providing food, medical care and temporary shelter if needed. But reports are already out in Mexico that the large number of illegal immigrants returning home could drive down wages and put pressure on social services - the same concerns many Americans have with illegals living and working in the U.S.
Whatever the reason, the decrease in the number of illegal immigrants is going to benefit our country in the longrun. And perhaps, Mexico will learn to base its economy on something other than remittances from the U.S., which amounts to Billions of dollars annually.

In the previous 2 years there have been 4 immigrants that returned to mexico, so a 100% increase brings that # to 8!
1.3 million out of 33 million , we still lose.
The really bad illegals like gang bangers, criminals, contract killers, human abductors, drug cartells, terrorists etc. are here to stay. Where else do they have a goldmine of victims plus they thrive on our meyham. These groups don't make their money legally so they don't need the jobs America has to offer.
WHO funds them?
WHERE do they get their data?
In WHICH states, other than Texas, is this occurring?
The reason I'm asking is because I've seen no such decrease in my part of California; no way. If anything, there is an increase.
Maybe in Texas, but my money would bet, not in California.
Find out who funds the Center for Immigration Studies, and you'll have some idea of what their motives may be. Sounds VERY fishy to me.
Example: most people living outside of the Bay Area think Oakland is a BLACK city.
Hah! Think again!
This post seems to have stirred up quite a bit of conversation! If you are interested in reading more about illegal immigration and issues, you might want to take a look at some of my recent posts. [DON'T WORRY I'M NOT A POINT PIG! I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH POINTS ANYWAY] I just thought I would get the words out:

Keep voting against your own best interests, republicans. Seems to be working out real well, both for yourselves and for the country your party is quickly destroying.
The Center for Immigration Studies is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit research organization founded in 1985. It is the nation's only think tank devoted exclusively to research and policy analysis of the economic, social, demographic, fiscal, and other impacts of immigration on the United States.
Here is another angle I saw from the web
CIS describes itself as "independent" and "nonpartisan," but its studies, reports, and media releases consistently support its restrictionist agenda and works closely on Capitol Hill with Republican Party immigration restrictionists. However, CIS has achieved credibility with the media and in think tank circles because of its lack of the kind of strident anti-immigrant rhetoric associated with many restrictionist groups, its willingness to invite pro-immigrant voices to its forums, and the scholarly format of its reports.
Factchecked.org states the following
CIS does not reveal its funding sources on its Web site but does encourage individual donations. CIS has received grants from conservative foundations including the Sarah Scaife Foundation and the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, according to those organizations’ annual reports.
There you have it.
I know what I see on the streets and at the Home Depots.
Carol, I see a few big pictures which one are you referring to?
I fail to see the humor in this issue, frankly. It's a very difficult, troubling issue that has been brought about by years of failed republican policies, but will only be solved, if at all, through bi-partisan cooperation.
Jobs, giving birth, getting expensive operations done at taxpayers expense, expand gang activity (MS13 now over 1 MILLION strong and they don't need a job to survive), criminal potpourri for everything from drug sales to human abductions and lets not forget the terrorists and their sleeper cells.
Last year the NY Times reported 6 different sleeper cells in northern NJ. So you all see it's not as harmless as 'a job'.
It's done with our taxes.
they are returning for two reasons, one of which relates to the reason they came here.
a weakened economy means less of the jobs they can fill without question (construction for instance) and the other is increased enforcement of laws/new regulations.
