It's easy to diagnose the desperation with which the Republican Party regards Barack Obama. Just look at the character of Republican attacks. They're at once superficial and ineffective. They try to get people riled up against Barack Obama by coming out with reports with sensationalist titles like Barack Obama Exposed. But, what's really exposed in those reports is that the Republicans don't have much substance with which to criticize Barack Obama.
Reports like Barack Obama Exposed have very little actual information to expose Barack Obama with. They're filled with innuendo and half-truths, exaggerations and just plain lies. They rely upon cheap rhetorical tactics that could be identified as flawed by the members of a high school debating team - tactics like implying guilt by association, or ad hominem attacks based on nothing more than Barack Obama's middle name (It's Hussein. So what?)
The Republicans want Barack Obama exposed? Okay. I have no problem with that. You see, the more information gets revealed about Barack Obama, the better Barack Obama looks.
After all, Barack Obama is the presidential candidate who had the wisdom to oppose the rushed invasion of Iraq from the start. John McCain, in comparison, said that the war would be "easy" and declared victory way back in the spring of 2003.
Barack Obama is the only presidential candidate to promote substantive policy instead of cheap gimmicks for dealing with high gasoline prices. Barack Obama supports proactive policy in dealing with home foreclosure, while John McCain suggests sitting back and just seeing what happens. While the Republicans were still denying that global warming is real, Barack Obama was working on solutions to the problem.
Yes, let's expose Barack Obama. Let's expose the truth: Barack Obama is the best presidential candidate America has seen in a very long time.
Some projects, like the Barack Obama Exposed lens over on Squidoo, are already taking up this task. Others are exposing Barack Obama's activities in particular locations, like a recent speech in North Carolina.
It's up to us to get the job done. We cannot sit on the sidelines and merely let others define the parameters of this year's presidential contest. In a free society, we citizens need to make our voices heard. An election, after all, is not determined just by what happens on Election Day, but also by the way that voters discuss the candidates beforehand.
We can make this race, or break it with our apathy. It's our own true natures that will be, in this political season, be exposed.
