Yesterday, I heard Bush's list of suspected terrorists includes over 860,000 Americans! To put this into perspective, before 9/11, the list only had a couple of hundred names and included all 19 terrorists who were involved in hijacking planes on 9/11!
So, my questions?
Have I made it to the big time?
There is no way to find out if you're on this list--the shrubettes hide behind the "matter of national security" line.
- I engage in anti-war protests, am a registered Democrat,
- have written letters, made phone calls against the Iraq occupation & other mean-spirited crap this administration has done and
- I have proudly donated time/money to "subversive" MoveOn.org(subversive, in this case, means having the brains to see the idiocy of this administration and standing up to it).
This administration couldn't locate 19 terrorists out of a couple of hundred names, do you really think they could come up with something out of 860K names?
Now, lets just assume this is an altruistic list(yeah-sure), but have they wire-tapped all 860,000 names? Remember, Verizon CAO(I think) just testified that this company turned over all phone data records that the government requested....both incoming and outgoing. There's also been verification that when this information is made available, the FBI not only checks who a person calls, but who the caller calls---in other words:
I call my daughter's ballet instructor, now that ballet instructor's phone may be tapped and her calls also monitored. Ok, that one seems a bit far-fetched....ok, I call someone that I work with on political/social justice work. That person is now tapped -- not because they have done anything subversive, just because they know me. War is Peace, Peace is War.
On the other hand, who was the CNN correspondant whose phone was tapped before the 2004 election? The one that was married to one of Kerry's upper echelon campaign managers? Hmmm.......
Do we believe that 860,000 people of the United States are involved in terrorist activities???
We have 300 million people in the U.S. I'm supposed to believe that almost one million are someway involved in terrorist activities...so, maybe some of them have Barack Obama bumper sticker? Have similar names to Barack Obama? Even republican candidates can't get the names correct and confuse Barack Obama with Osama Bin Laden(Mitt Romney), but I'm an optimist and actually believe the American populace might be a bit more discerning than the republican't administration and candidates.
Keeps smelling more and more like McCarthyism of the 50's.

I sometimes think I "over-think", but to have that many U.S. citizens on a "terrorist watch list" is just way too uncomfortable!
I also remember that saint Ronnie Raygun named names when he was called to testify before HUAC (house unamerican activities committee); I guess he needed to reduce the competition for roles.
Free speech always frightens despots. As to whether I'm on the list, I don't know whether to be anoyed if I'm not or flattered if I am.
Glad you enjoyed my Quick Tips 4 U post. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Thanks Kathleen, there are still 448 days left, way too many for mischief.

This is a pathetic set of circumstances for a quote-advanced-unquote society to be indulging in.
Thanks, Kim.
Sandra, a book I'm reading is American Theocracy by Kevin Phillips -- and really delves into some of the reasons behind this and your comment. Its not just as simple as racist, but classist and using religion against the public.
At this point, I am just holding my breath waiting for this administration to be GONE. There's going to be a lot of work cleaning up the mess it's left behind. Some of the damage won't be fixable in my lifetime. Stunning.
