The Senator and the Madam

John Vitter admitted that his phone number was on the DC Madam's call list. This is not the first time that he's been accused of visiting prostitutes, this was also an accusation from republican operatives in Lousiana in the past(this was dealing with a New Orleans prostitute). Mr. Vitter states this was years ago(although he's been a senator since only 2004, he was in the house of representatives from 1999 - 2004) he knows its a sin and requested forgiveness from his wife and his god. End of story? I don't think so. 

Mr. Vitter has been squarely in the cheering section of the neo-conservative ideals if you check on his voting record, to be a "law & order" senator means having respect for the law, doesn't it? 

 Senator Vitter opposed/s:

funds to reduce teen pregnancy which would be used for education and contraceptives.
women's reproductive choices 
any and all gay rights and protections(i.e., hate crime, etc.)
raising CAFE standards and any incentives for alternative fuels
repealing capital gains tax cut to fund military($47B)

Senator Vitter favors:

Social security privitzation
Corportation rights over citizen's
prison vs. treatment and more time for juveniles(these are non-violent crimes)
school vouchers and prayer in public school
and the all inclusive sound byte - "family values".

Maybe I missed something, but I do think prostitution and using the services of one is still illegal in Washington, D.C. and New Orleans. And when has prostitution been part of the family values???

But, then again, Mr. Vitter is also involved with the Jack Abramhoff scandal so, as usual it seems the Repugs are always playing the do as I say, not as I do.

Mr. Vitter did say that he spoke to his priest and his wife, requesting forgiveness and has also gone through counseling. I hope this helps him, but I also believe that since Mr. Vitter stated, :

"Some current polls may suggest that people are turned off by the whole Clinton mess and don't care -- because the stock market is good, the Clinton spin machine is even better or other reasons. But that doesn't answer the question of whether President Clinton should be impeached and removed from office because he is morally unfit to govern.

The writings of the Founding Fathers are very instructive on this issue. They are not cast in terms of political effectiveness at all but in terms of right and wrong -- moral fitness. Hamilton writes in the Federalists Papers
(No. 65) that impeachable offenses are those that "proceed from the misconduct of public men, or, in other words, from the abuse or violation of some public trust."

The senator is very hypocritical in his deeds and words. Protect the rich, corporations and the powerful, use religion as a tool and take away my rights at the same time. Praise be the corporatists! And shame on you Mr. Vitter.
