First Jupiter takes 11.89 Earth years to orbit the sun. At aphelion (the place in its orbit where Jupiter is farthest from the Sun), Jupiter is 815,700,000 km from the Sun. At perihelion (the place in its orbit where Jupiter is closest to the Sun), Jupiter is 749,900,000 km from the Sun. When Jupiter is furthest from the sun there are fewer sunspots, and when Jupiter is closest to the sun there are more sunspots. These sunspots cause the climate to chance here on Earth, warmer climates are caused by a more active sun and cooler climates are caused by a less active sun. These cycle have been known for years and depending on who one discusses this cycle with we are currently in cycle 23, or cycle 24 or both cycle 23 and cycle 24.
Taking the 11.89 year orbit of Jupiter we have been looking at and researching these cycles for the last 273 or so years.
However there is another Jupiter cycle that is longer years long and a new probable super minimum beginning in 2011
If we take the Schove estimates of the maximum magnitudes (R(M)) from the period 1500-1750 and the measurements from 1750, we get:
1410-1500 ? cold (at end the Sporer minimum)
1510-1600 107 warm
1610-1700 61 cold (at end the Maunder minimum)
1710-1800 114 warm
1810-1900 95 cold (begins with the Dalton minimum)
1910-2000 146 warm
2010-2100 cold?

Interesting. This is the first I've heard of the Jupiter / Sun Spot connection.
Hmmm.... I've never heard of the connection either, but it makes sense that our entire solar system would be entertwined. Very interesting!
Of course there are lots of other factors as well. If it were simple we'd already know what's coming.
